Tired of sex, drugs (sorry no RR) and crime on 23rd St? — Brooklynian

Tired of sex, drugs (sorry no RR) and crime on 23rd St?

Hello to all...

While 23rd St across from the the Cemetery (and 20th Street/24th Street, though not as much) has always been a good place to "park," I am seeing a disturbing trend that was stopped by Community Board 7 back in 2005 when the mid-day "rendezvous" for a lunch-time quickie, mid-day/after work drug deals, prostitution and dumping galore was rampant.

Seems things are reverting, culminating with a late night stick-up last week of a livery cab driver on Wednesday, approx. 3AM. No one hurt, cops and livery cabs galore for an hour and keys tossed into Green-Wood, but this kind of stuff only gets worse.

I'm going to go back to CB7 AGAIN to set up a meeting with the 72nd Pct. I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced issues, day or night, that they would like to bring to the Commander's attention.

Last time increased drive-bys (on their way to 7th Ave) and a few narcotics busts (and one prostitution) kept low-lifes off the block (with the occasional back-seat shuffle) till recently.

Any stories to tell?

  • We'll keep an eye out. i am so down to help out. We're on the block.
  • If you or any of your neighbors can video some of the activity, that is the most effective way to get results from the police..

It's worked for me on a few occasions.
  • that top section of 23rd across from the cemetary? i always thought that would be a nice quiet place to live. no?
  • It may not be quiet, but it sounds entertaining .
  • cemetery = quiet neighbors
  • I didn't realize you dealt with such grave humor
  • usually it's gallows humor, but i'm flexible
  • I'm glad to hear that.

Yes it is, if you pay no attention to the construction, trucks, partying (from cars at night), drug deals (cue partying sound) and the occasional late night loud neighbor forgetting it's 3am, not 3pm when they decide to have a oration on "life"a s they walk up the block.

Lovely block, would just like to see it cleaned up again, the development done and people screwing ans smoking (or snorting, your pick) someplace else...

Gee, sorry for a wee bit of a rant.

    PS. It's "cemetery"
  • you'll notice that in my second posting i spelled correctly.

    Hey that's my bit!

    The neighbors are very quiet.

Also, everyone's dying to get in.
  • And parking, they only pull up once.

We love all of our new neighbors :)
  • ezn, people are dying who've never died before
  • why are these old jokes being resurrected, they should just be laid to rest
  • Last night around 8:30 turned the corner from 7th onto 23rd. I noticed a car parked right in front of the fire hydrant a few yards down the street. Of course I'm thinking about what kind of idiot would park there when there's parking everywhere. Lo and behold on closer inspection I noticed steamed up windows and a couple in the back seat. Didn't know quite what to do. Not an emergency but pretty gauche. Recommendations on next time since this block is a regular lovers lane.
  • Working from home, I have done everything from LOUDLY sweeping my front stoop, faked calling the cops on the phone, taken photos (it's great when the flash goes off!), getting my wife and neighbors to help us me clap and whistle (especially when it's a quickie "boy, she got nothing outta that!") and flicking the front porch lights on & off at night.

Sometimes it works, especially if you are on your property, stoop, doorway, etc. making noise and looking directly at them (and I just love being called a "faggot" when I interrupt Mr. Romance w/ his lover girl and the take off...yes, watching you screw in the back seat makes me gay I guess).

Some times people just don't give a f*ck (pun intended)!!

But, embarrassment is the best cure I have found.

Now, I understand going "parking" when you are younger (I certainly did it when I was in HS), but grown adults screwing next to a cemetery, across the street from active construction sites and people being home..."gee honey, I know this real romantic spot..."

    Not understanding.
  • might be some fun items here for you.

Since you have access to a plug, I'd opt for those versions.

Note to self: Avoid boinking in front of lostingreenwoodhgts house.
  • Very funny!

I prefer the water hose! LOL.
  • a bullhorn does wonders, i visited my in laws in ritzy Ridgewood NJ, where I stood outside her neighbors house and announced -THIS IS THE POLICE COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP- for some reason I wasn't invited back.
  • Can you get your hands on a little laser-like light, preferably a red one? When I lived in a shady neighborhood in Boston many years ago, we used to shine one of those in cars whose passengers were steaming up the windows. Those in the car would go speeding off, afraid they were about to get shot. Worked every time.

thats a good idea, it would even be better if a group of neighbors did it at the same time, the pervs will think we're being invaded and probably not come back.
  • I live on 22nd St. and never encounter anything like that over there, but I have seen a couple having sex on 25th St. on the hood of a car just up from the party hall. I didn't really do anything, just turned and went up 24th St. instead.

    Ugh.
