Selfish Drivers
Finding parking in the nabe has got unbearably bad over the past couple of years.
And what makes it worse is really selfish drivers. On many an occasion i have seen cars parked a few feet away from the end of the block. Surely no car was parked there earlier that warranted the car to be parked the way it is. Have two cars like this in a row and for every three spots you have just two cars parked.
Just last week and again today, I see someone parking their car bang in the middle of two open spots. In both cases I had to pull up and ask them to move their car back or front so I could also park. If I was not there at that instant, they would have just parked and gone away.
I realize there is no rule to force them to park so as not to take up two vacant spots, but isnt it the right thing to do.
The guy today who parked was already out of his car and then made a big fuss about getting back in. However I have a big SUV (ok ok I know!) and he realized that one way or the other I was going to try to squeeze in and would invariably bump his car. Only then did he get in his car and pull back freeing up one entire car parking spot.
Other than dismissing these drivers as assholes, is there something that can be done. Or does one just swallow it and move on ?

I always park my car in two spaces when I can, as I hate the bumper badger. Yes we are selfish but we love our cars.

the bumper badger is for imbeciles. (1) it doesnt protect the corners of the bumper, you know, the area most dirtbags graze when hastily forcing their car into the spot behind your car, and (2) only an imbecile would drive around with that ridiculous thing flapping around behind them all day when it was designed to tuck away in the trunk when the car is being driven.
Selfish parkers do so because they hate having careless drivers damage their bumper while parking. Maybe we should go back to those old heavy steel bumpers. -

if you really love your car so much, stop being a cheap ass and pony up the 200$ and put the car in a garage.
With your kind of attitude, I am glad that I don't feel so guilty when I bump the car when trying to park in front or behind a "selfish driver" -

which area does not have a parking lot?
In the middle of America, maybe, but in which city do you not find a parking garage?
A weak excuse. -

Don't forget, WT, sorry I mean Mr. WT, has a handgun in the glove box. He can park his 100K Ride anywhere, even in your driveway (if you had a driveway, Ha Ha).

There is actually a solution. Lobby the city to paint parking spaces on all the streets on which it is legal to park. If a car is not properly parked within the bay it gets ticketed or towed. I think that as the city's economic plight worsens, you'll find more parking meters being installed along streets, even in Brooklyn.

They do that, it's called commercial zones! Plus the city uses printed meter tickets, which is more economical than painted bay spaces. The open space system creates more revenue because you can park more cars in the same space. -

Wait, are we guessing where WT lives, or where we would like him to live?
Nebraska (my answer for each) -

Personally I've just decided to live with this huge frustration. If people want to obliviously and selfishly not leave space for another car, there's no way to stop them.
Few things are more frustrating than someone who blatantly parks half a space away from a corner, thus ensuring that they take up two spots.
Howdy, Stranger!
