Honking

Honking's bad, car alarms are worse, but you know what can top all that?
Mockingbirds.
Five years ago when we moved in to our place on Sterling, enjoying the summer and sleeeping with the back door open, we had a bad encounter with a mockingbird -- who had learned to imitate car alarms. Eeeh eeeh eeeh eeeh! Whoop whoop whoop whoop! ENNH ENNH ENNH ENNH! Weee-ooh weee-ooh weee-ooh weeeooh! (etc.)
Every morning. At dawn, around 5am come June.
Now, I firmly believe that all creatures have their place in the universe. But I was ready to shoot that animal with something very, very large. -
C'mon, Pete C, don't you recognize all the various symbolic reasons to avoid killing that bird? It would be sort of like shooting Tom Robinson in jail after he was falsely imprisoned on charges of rape because Mayella Ewell's father caught him fixing something in her house and buying her younger siblings ice cream.

Subject: Letter writing update
After sending letters to our local police precinct and Councilwoman James I have a meeting scheduled with the Councilwoman for next week and have already had a positive response from the police. This excercise has renewed my faith in local government.
The Special Projects Lieutenant from the 77th Precinct has promised to beef up patrols especially during the summer. He promised that additional narcotics officers will be posted on Lincoln Place to reduce drug trafficking and 'Quality of Life' officers will issue tickets for excessive honking, yelling, car alarms, and loud music. Additionally, the Precinct wil remove graffiti from the building on the corner of Washington and Lincoln come summer time.
I will press councilwoman James for similar support when I meet with her next week (as well as additional street sweeping).
If anyone is interested in helping out there is a standing invitation to join the Lincoln Place Block Association. To join, or to attend the next meeting, please call Mrs. Caldwell at 718.638.3103 -

So how did it go? I am about to write a letter to Council Member James about car alarms so I was wondering if you two broached this subject in your meeting.

You know, the stream of water guns can effectively squirt through a window screen. I'd squirt on the windshield every time he honks.
In the summer it'll be more fun when their car window is open and you can actually shoot them. -

It went very well. Letitia is taking these matters seriously and has promised to boost policing and other attendant issues (garbage removal, street lighting, etc.). I would really suggest talking to her (and the police) about this and other matters. -
if the ballons dont work. get the anti sound device that i saw years ago that was invented on pop sci or pop mech. mag.
