oldest family run business in park slope?

i started another thread asking what is the oldest business in park slope still in operation. it turned out to be neergard’s drug store on 5th ave, which has been in that spot since 1888. i thought it became a pretty interesting thread. so now i want to ask a slightly different question

what is the oldest business in park slope that is still run by the same family who originally opened it? that’s a trickier question and i would not be shocked if it turns out to be luigi’s pizza on 5th ave which has only been there 35 years, nothing compared to neergards. but that’s just a guess

  • I really don't know, but, i am going to go with Leopoldi's Hardware once again. This should be interesting to see.
  • define family
  • blood relatives. a store in which when the original owner retired, he gave the business to his son, daughter, niece, nephew, or cousin, etc. or if an owner passed it on to his adopted son or daughter etc that still counts of course.
  • here’s an example of when it could get tricky:

there’s a fairly new brick oven pizza restaurant on 5th ave between 10th & 11th st called peppino’s (it‘s probably been there about one year). but the owner is the son of the owner of aniello’s pizzeria, which was a fast food pizzeria in the exact same space for decades. there was only about 2 months between when aniello’s closed and peppino’s opened… so they’re both pizza places in the same spot run by the same family. but they have two different names. one was fast food, the other is more of a fancy restaurant. and the look inside is completely different.

i don’t even know myself if this qualifies
  • Park Slope Barber must be in the running.

no. that place has been there over 100 years but the people running now are not related to the original owner. they just bought the business from the original owner. they’ve owned it for decades now, but they have no relation to the original owner. i'm pretty sure of that
  • I'm going to throw n Aunt Suzie's, A&S Meats, 7th Avenue Donuts. Little Things, Palma Chemists, Pogglio Realty, Antonio's, Szechuan Delight and the Italian restaurant on 7th Ave by 8th Street.

are you just guessing those are all still run by the same family that originally opened them? or do you actually know?
  • I know. At least that the same owner/s have had them since opening day.
  • What about Corner Burger on the corner of 5th Ave and 6th Street?

HA! so you've heard about it too...actually, he was born in pakistan next to a goat, then moved to Canada at the age of 5, where he got one of those really big furry hats. he was homeless at the time so he lived in it until he was 19. he next moved to russia where he would develop his addiction to pokemon cards. it were these cards that inspierd him to open the first Ugg store in Brooklyn. ... and I should probably go back to work now.
  • T Mobile on 5th and 10th.
  • Why do we have so many damn trolls lately? They aren't even good trolls!
  • they just don't make trolls like they use too.
  • I'm a good troll, I promise!
  • Pizza Grill on 4th b/w 11th and 12th
