Pending roach nightmare, or mere roach overreaction?
Prologue: I hail from a place where roaches are not an issue, so I am uneducated in their ways.
Yesterday my across the hall neighbor brought in a table from the street not realizing it had hollow legs that were roach-infested. She immediately bought traps and has only seen one since. She's having someone clean her apartment tomorrow.
I have never seen a roach in our building.
Should I now expect a deluge? How can I arm my apartment against them, aside from keeping it clean (though there is always dog food out). Do I need traps? Guns? Blowtorches? I have a completely out-of-proportion fear of roaches and don't want to deal with them ever ever EVER!

remove the offending table.
put boric acid around the inside perimeter of your apartment. -

You shouldn't leave standing water around. For example letting dishes soak in the sink . . . for a week.

At least it wasn't bed bugs.
It really depends on how long the table was in the apartment, and if they had time to lay eggs. Boric acid could be dangerous to your little black glurry guy, so i would be extra careful about that. Keep it clean and put out some hotels. Good luck! -

First things first: DO NOT let neighbors bring in outside stuff... or at least yell at them if they do. Yell over and over. Make them hate you if they do it again. I'm all for being great neighbors, however, bed bugs are no joke.
Speaking from someone who had a bed bug issue last year (brought in from the neighbors bringing anything/everything into their apartment, INCLUDING a mattress that had spray paint on it saying "BEDBUGS"), free crap is not worth it. And I LOVE free stuff.
That's my rant, not at you, but at your neighbors. Can I come over and yell?!
I'll bring bed bug pictures with me. -
