You could contact the NYC Coalition For the Homeless and ask if there is any more direct way to make a donation.
The Coalition often accepts in-kind donations of new or gently used clothing, new toiletries/personal hygiene items or home furnishings that clients of Coalition for the Homeless might be able to use. Due to limited storage space, the Coalition is not always able to accept all donations. We will make every attempt to match your gift with a Coalition program, or if we are unable to do so, we will connect you with another appropriate charity organization. Please call (212) 776-2059 or email [email protected] for more information.
I know I would feel a little uneasy leaving suits at my local Salvation Army store where their donation pile is about 6 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
I carefully wrapped a bunch of glassware to donate once. I told the woman what was inside and she almost threw it right on top of the pile. Eesh. Shattered glass and second hand clothes aren't a great holiday treat. -
Try either Housing Works or Men's Wearhouse.

I was going to suggest Housing Works as well. They are a great organization. Also, consider a local church or a homeless shelter or halfway house. They'll definitely find a use.

Subject: Clothing Donation
I donate all of my gently used clothing including shoes to:
St. Mary's Church 718 529-6070
The great thing is that they pick up. They ask that you place the items in white plastic garbage bags -
Mochanet, do you have an address for St. Mary's for drop off? or pick up preferred?
Is it this one?
