Wait, swirlie? I had to google that shit. You really had a screwed up childhood.
What did they call them when the kids did it to you?
I was never swirled. Willied maybe, but never swirled. -
whynot_31 wrote: ...fear of swirlies, combined with the fact that I could not catch, led me to avoid jocks.
Dude has a lease? What are the terms? Month-to-month?
...but I'm totally diffferent now. ....not.
P.S. Now I'm a bully and tell people to put their dog on lease. -
go away English teacher.
The # of people swirled vs wet willied vs wedgie'd is completely poll worthy.
I step up the last poll. VD, your turn -

F everybody thats said otherwise: You are correct in postulating that people are too effin busybody in this day and age and need a good blast. -

I have no idea how to do a poll. And there's nothing on Ask Brooklynian that I could find. Knock yourself out, big boy.

you just start a new topic, then it offers you poll.
it's much easier than helping you know who with a tv -
Hmm , maybe I should do a Whynot and start a poll on whether I should add you to my facebook or not. :-k

I have reached a point of zero tolerance with those individuals residing in this neighborhood who feel that they have carte blanche to open their mouth in a disrespectful manner to anyone and everyone in public, whenever they deem it necessary. Unless you have a badge, I would advise you to keep your thoughts to yourself, since the next person you decide to open your mouth to may not possess the same self-restraint that I do.
What did the person actually say to you that made you come close to losing your self-restraint? LOL at your showing disrespect of the law and your getting upset when someone "disrespects" you because you broke the law. As others have pointed out, the law is there for a reason. If you don't like it, try to change it. Seems like you did the right thing by walking away since you were the first person in the wrong, even if that was not your motivation. -

I think this is about as good of an answer as you could get...
There shouldn't be room in any of our lives for anger and/or disrespect, but we fought hard to have the the most lenient off-leash park policy in NYC. I don't think it is "assholish" to suggest that people abide by the rules - because if enough people chose to disregard them, we'd lose the privileges we now have.
Dogs must be On Leash (6ft or less) in all places, at all times between 9am - 9pm
All other times dogs may be Off Leash in the Long Meadow, the Nethermead, and the Peninsula. 9 at night until 9 in the morning.
I, for one, thank and admire people for sticking to the above rules. -
Ironic considering the thread you started a few weeks back:

Yes it's annoying for a stranger to approach you and tell you what to do. It's also annoying when you break the law. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I think most people would agree the more severe, and more antisocial faux-pas is the former. You should set up a poll to find out.
You are the pot calling the kettle black. You live in a glass house and throw stones. You are pointing fingers, but you have three of your own fingers pointing back at yourself, etc. -
Leash rage. How novel.
Just settle it the old fashioned American Way: with AK-47s. -
Obamanut wrote: [quote=winstonsmith]Why don't you just follow the law. A lot a people are tired of stepping in shit. Prospect Park is not your lawn.
Yeah, well a lot of people who have been here for a very long time are tired of wading through the Park Slope PC Police's bullshit. Unless I'm somehow infringing upon your civil liberties and depriving you of your ability to enjoy the park, then whether I'm breaking the law is none of your business. You're not a law enforcement official. Worry about your own business and keep your thoughts to yourself.
I thought this was the forum for out thoughts.
I can't tell you how many times dog owners infringed on my civil liberties; my right to walk down the sidewalk without stepping in shit. My right to let my 2 year old touch a tree in Prospect Park with out assuming it was peed on 10 or 30 times. My right to play in the little league in the Long Meadow with out waiting for the dogs to finish playing.
So when you break the law it is a lot of my business.
Next time is see a dog owner let his or her dog pee on playground equipment. I wont so a word I will just pack up my kids and dial 911 or should I just post their photo on this forum. -
I had my dog in the early days of the off-leash rules (b4 the kiddie crew here were around) - and it was a real struggle to keep that privilege. As tempting as it is to let your dog off the leash when you think no one is around it's still wrong. I'm sorry you're so pissed at the PS invasion. I was too, and then I moved from my home-borough and it's all good.

Absurd. How are you going to compare someone committing a public violation (not even a misdemeanor), aimed at no one individual, to approaching someone you don't know outside in a confrontational manner. By that rationale, I guess the next time I see someone double parked anywhere in the city, I have the right to curse him or her out?

Not to mention, I don't open my mouth to those fools either. Not unless their dog becomes a direct interference with my shopping. -

What do those dog owners have to do with me? Stop making me into your dog-gripe straw man. I clean up after my dog, and I do not let him into the kids' playground. As for your beef with dogs peeing on upright objects in the city, it sounds like, as I said, you are clueless to the fundamental compromises of urban life. You don't like my dog? Well I don't like your kids. We both pay taxes and vote, so we both have to deal with each other. You are ripe for the ol' "If you can't wrap your mind around it, maybe you should have stayed in the suburbs." -

I never said that the person who "cursed" you out, if that is what the person did, had a "right" to do that. If you noticed, I made a point of saying that you were the first one in the wrong, meaning that the other person was also in the wrong. I'm just saying you shouldn't act so high and mighty, given that you were the first one in the wrong. Just walk away, which is what you did. Be grateful you didn't get a summons, espcially during these hard financial times when the police will be out looking for reasons to give a summons.

Ok, Obmanut, you are perfect.
But let me tell you why I have a problem with dog owners.
What does "I clean up after my dog mean"? That means that a dog can crap anywhere in Prospect Park and the responsible owner can pick it up with a newspaper or plastic bag and put it in the trash. That is not good enough for me. That spot is still full of crap. Am I supposed to have a picnic there, slide into second base, or just sit on the grass.
Also, I am very aware of the fundamental compromises of urban life, I have been living in Brooklyn all my life. I am reminded of them every time I watch a dog pee on my flower garden. -
Does the leash law prohibit an owner from walking a dog, on a leash, in the meadow or on the grass? Does it require that dogs be walked and crap in limited areas of the park, where people won't be picnicing or playing?
-
Subject: So you get to pick which laws apply to you?
So wait, let me make sure I understand this. There are laws, and they exist for the common good, but you get to pick and choose which ones apply to you, right?
What makes you so special? -

I think a dog owner is allowed to let his or her dog poop any were on public property as long as they "clean it up". That is one of the compromises of urban life I have to deal with.
That is why I often picnicked at the Botanical Garden and once even in Greenwood. No dogs allowed. -
winstonsmith wrote: slide into second base.
when you're sliding into two and you feel it in your shoe?
diarrhea, diarrhea!
Might not be the dog's fault.
Just sayin' -

This is exactly the attitude. We're on the old slippery slope: the next thing you know, they'll want to park their strollers in the middle of 7th Avenue.

One day in the summer I sat down on a bench in the park. I was the only one around and there were many many empty benches. I was drinking coffee and smoking a cig. This fucking bitch comes and sits down right next to me on the same bench and starts coughing and fanning with her hand and yells "YOU'RE RUINING THE PARK FOR EVERYONE". I went ballistic on her devil scunt.

I make the choice to take the chance of getting a citation for having my dog off the leash. If I'm willing to take that gamble, that's my prerogative. If I run into a Park Ranger or a cop and end up getting a ticket, I'll deal with it. That's between the city and I.
What makes you so special?
Nowhere in that equation does a nobody like "winstonsmith" and his kids, or any other self-important, self-appointed, Park Slope citizens' patrol play a role in it. Become an auxiliary police officer if you feel such a strong need to confront others about public violations which you have no stake in.
Howdy, Stranger!
