It is really icy out there

Be careful, I just went out to see if I could take my kids tabogining in the Park (YES!).

The only car that came past me on the way back to 8th Ave slid into the intersection!

Lots of "black ice"

Comments

  • thanks for the tip. I'm trying not to go anywhere
  • I had to go pick up my youngest from a sleepover and we skidded and nearly toppled on what looked like a shoveled walk. Black ice indeed. Be very very careful - a person could throw out their back or knee or fall on a hip or something horrid.
  • Yes everyone please be careful- my boyfriend busted his ass on our stoop stairs this morning (even being careful since the hand rail is also solid ice) and was definitely almost going down on his way to get the paper. I've cancelled my city plans to avoid it! Be safe!
  • anybody go out lately? am contemplating something which would entail walking a few blocks
  • It was fine in my neighborhood earlier. The sun was out so a lot of stuff melted. Of course, this could have froze right back up once the sun went down.
  • Flexi... the temps were a little higher during the day and the sun was out so early morning icy conditions did improve but I think as evening comes upon us the temps will go down and there will be re-freezing. If you are getting cabin fever... go out now... don't wait.
  • I've been walking around a lot today and it isn't terrible, but you still have to be pretty careful. Some areas are a bit spotty.
  • thanks. If I don't make it back, send Potter out to look for me. I'll be the one on my ass somewhere in WT.
  • I just walked two blocks with my dinner and 35 lbs. of laundry. Nothing to fear.
  • I'm back. I walked carefully and it was ok> I spotted a few places where it looked icy, so I went to the street
  • what kind of dub pie did you get?

ha! I"m partial to the meat and cheese ones
  • Woah how'd you know she went to DP!

GF and I just ate at Enzos. The walk is fine in most places.

(the DP thing was a joke from the PC Police thread)
  • HEY!?

I haven't left the house since yesterday at 11am when I first (and I do say luckily) came across this thread.

Is there still black ice out there? Please tell me... I'm hungry and a little tipsy and scared.

I do have a half filled 55 gallon drum of kitty litter...

if I strap that to my back, puncture the bottom allowing a trickle litter to flow, and walk backward do you think it's possible for me to avert the inevitable battle with gravity and cold, cold, cement?
  • no. stay inside until march, at least.
  • i am going to take a chunk of ice from my neighbor's sidewalk, and throw it through their leaded bayfront prewar classic bay front window!!! fkers NEVER shovel--and they have a toddler!@!@i have to walk in the street around their house just to be safe.

  • Sunday night I walked carefully and did laundry, no problem. Went to three spots for dinner/drinks and no problem. It wasn't until walking home sometime in the midde of the night that I failed to be careful and slipped and fell on my ass. My knee now sports a baseball sized bruise. Nice.
