Good Consignment Store

Hi does anyone know a good consignment store that I can bring my clothing to? (except Beacon's closet.. been there, not a good experience) I have a lot of really great brands (surf, skate, and designer brands) and would like to make a little extra money, vs just donating it to a thrift store..

Meshimar, 7th avenue btwn 14th & 15th. Sold alot of clothes, made alot of money there.

how does that work exactly? how much does the store get when the item sells?

I forget exactly, i think you get about 25 or 30% of what the item sells for - the store gets the rest. if you sell alot it adds up.

that store called monk thrift shop on 5th ave between 16th st & prospect ave seems like the kind of store that probably would do that. call them and ask (718) 788-2950‎

Great, those for the suggestions. I think I have been to Monk before shopping. I have looked into ebay, but there is just sooo much stuff on it that I feel as though my items may just get lost in the shuffle. thanks again!!

Yeah I've tried to sell clothes on ebay unsuccessfully and ended up having to pay fees when the items didn't sell, so you're better off doing a stoop sale or consigment in the end.

by the way, i love meshimar. i buy there because their prices are good and i like their style. one has to remember that a store still has to have a pleasant shopping vibe; so they have to be selective.Beacon's might be overly so; but the people who go there really seem to appreciate their taste.

Yes, and if you sell at Beacon you get a portion of your payment in store credit, so you have to want to shop there too.

Yes, I would definitely rather just have the cash then store credit, even though they give you a better percentage on store credit. I brought two huge bags of things to Beacons, and I don't expect them to take everything but they took one thing and it was just a waste schlepping all my bags back and forth for a measely $7.

honestly if you’re expecting to make a fortunate from this i think your going to be very disappointed no matter where you go. but if you find a place that really turns out to be that much better than beacons please let me know

If you have high end stuff you should try Allure on Fifth (near President St.). A tiny store but with some amazing stuff - Balenciaga, Prada, Pink shirts for men. I'm pretty sure the owner will only take designer labels though.
