Thrift stores that pick up?
Anyone know of thrift stores or charity groups that will pick up donations? I've got multiple bags of clothing/shoes/bedding, several boxes of books and a few random other items I'd like to give to a worthy cause, but all of the places I checked out say they only do pickups for furniture. I don't have a car, it's too much stuff for me to shlep someplace, and I'd hate to have to just put it all on the curb, since there's a lot of stuff someone could use.

Sidewalk sale??
I've had a similar issue.
What do I do with these 2 tube TVs that have been collecting dust for eternity? Do TV's count as furniture?
Anyone want them? LOL -
Salvation Army will pick up. It will just take a week or two to get an appt. I had them come to my house in the fall and they picked up clothes, stereo equipment, etc.
I will take your books, as long as you don't have bedbugs or silverfish
I can use them for bookcrossing. -
United Veterans Beacon House provides help/housing to homeless vets - www.uvbh.com They pick up clothing and bedding - usually in just a day or two after calling. Their pick up # is 718-628-6469.

You can take the clothing shoes and bedding to Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket on Saturday. It goes to Goodwill and they recycle what they can't resell

Thanks all -- I'm only here for a couple more days, flying out on Friday.
Smitty, PM me regarding the books. If you can get here sometime Wednesday or Thursday (1/28 or 1/29), they're yours. I'm on 10th Street near 8th Ave.
BP, not sure what you might want ... the clothing and shoes are all men's (mine and my ex's). There's an old VCR that works fine, though no one seems to want those anymore. A box fan that also works fine, but needs to be cleaned. The housewares are mostly the bits of boxed place settings that I never use (saucers, salad plates) but also some bowls, glasses, coffee cups, etc. Some old rugs that really need cleaning and might, if I'm honest, be curb-worthy. Also several backpacks and duffel bags my ex is discarding. As for the books, my brain is so addled right now that I can't recall any of the titles I'm discarding. Again, if you can get here like tomorrow, you're welcome to peruse. But I think I may try Beacon House if they'll pick it up. -
jf - thanks for the tip. United Veterans is picking up the clothes and stuff tomorrow.
I still have several boxes of books that could use a good home. Any takers? -
Glad they could help you (and vice versa). Methodist Hospital I know takes donations of used books - they can be brought in at anytime, day or night. If you're not near Methodist, your neighborhood hospital would probably work the same way but I would put in a quick call to make sure.

Ditto on United Veterans. They will pick up 2 bags of old clothes next day. You don't even have to be home. They said to leave it in front of the house. Now I can fill up the closet with more future unneeded items!
