Terri and Slick Willie need homes

Terri is sweet as can be, trapped as part of a TNR project, she was originally thought to be feral. Turns out she just needed some love and patience. Terri has become the 3 kittens surrogate mama. She helped socialize them by visiting them in their cage, cleaning them, sleeping with them, and even letting them try to nurse! Terri has been vaccinated, spayed, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Slick was abandoned on my block, totally freaked out to be on the street and probably abused. Approximately 1 year old, vaccinated, neutered, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Slick has come a long way in the past few months.

Oh, and Slick is quite the talker. He talks to everyone and even to himself sometimes. He probably would be okay as an only cat but he does like to play with my guys.

  • Terri is just the sweetest girl, she came to me pretty freaked out and didn't trust me at all. As soon as she saw the other cats she relaxed a lot and started warming up to me. Terri loves to be petted, she'll flop down right in front of me and roll onto her back. When I walk by she'll swat me with her paw to make me stop and pet her. She still isn't comfortable being picked up, no fighting or anything like that. It's kind of sad but she flattens herself out and tries to slide down to the ground. I've tried getting her to lay on the bed with me and she'll actually stay for a few minutes now. Terri is such a good girl, she has the funniest face and will be a wonderful addition to any home.

Now Slick, full disclosure here. Slick is the one who bit me in December but it wasn't his fault. He'd been abandoned on my block, was out there for a month before I was able to take him in. He had to fight other cats for food and was completely freaked out, he went right into the carrier when I went to get him. I had Slick for about 3 weeks when a woman I know brought me a 7 month old unspayed female that someone had dumped in her building's hallway. At that time Slick was still hanging out in my bathroom but I had to put the new girl in there. The next morning around 5am I went to use the bathroom and as I was leaving Slick tried to get into the bathroom. I think the combination of a new cat in "his" area who was also an unspayed female was too much for him. (Slick wasn't neutered yet.) He freaked out and I was stupid (and tired) enough to try to restrain him. That's when he flipped around and bit me good.

Since then Slick has been neutered and has become a huge mush. He sleeps on my lap and follows me around "telling" me he wants to be petted. He plays wonderfully with the other cats and is very sweet to the kittens, cleaning them and sleeping with them and Terri. I won't lie and say that Slick is perfectly adjusted now, he still needs some work. He doesn't like being picked up but will tolerate it for a few seconds, especially if I'm putting him on my lap. I've been conditioning him to get used to it by petting him and running my hands along his sides without picking him up. Slick will need a little more patience than some cats but it'll definitely be worth it. He's come such a long way from the terrified tomcat I found, I can't wait to see the amazing cat he'll become.
  • Just a toot for Caseo and her judgment on cats. BF adopted one of her rescues (remember Squeakers, Caseo?). At first he was super shy and skittish- and this was in his own home, with Daver. After a while though, he calmed down, but only with Daver and the kids. NOW- he's at my house with my two monsters. They didn't know what to think of a kitteh who actually LIKED getting beat up- he just kept coming back for more. Then, he figured he could get them back- so he'll randomly swat at my guys, but they don't seem to care- like its all fair game. Within a week's time (after holing him up in his own room so he could get used to the place/smells/other kittehs, he's eating right next to them- and they're all like "whatever..."

I'll get pics- he's gotten so big, so fast!

Bottom line- Caseo= great rescue mommy!
  • Squeakies! He was a hard one to give up, I'm just such a sucker for the hard luck cases. I'm so glad he's doing so well, he was such a sweet funny little guy. I would love to see pics of him now! And thanks for the compliment! :D
  • I think Slick is ready to be adopted! He's turned into the sweetest, goofiest cat. He butts his head up against mine for forehead kisses and sleeps on my bed. He's so good with the other cats and has even gotten used to the dogs. I can't believe how much he's changed in the last few months, it's been wonderful to see him learn to be a kitty!
  • Go Slick! Good job, Caseopele!
  • Oh, and he loves corn and peas!
  • Ha! Awesome job Caseo. You are indeed the cat whisperer!

My Don Gato is also making some serious strides in getting away from his ally cat ways. Sadly he's still not at the cuddling point. I have to sneak in my cuddles in while he sleeps.
  • It's not just me, the other cats help a lot! Slick has even gotten over his food possessiveness, he figured out that he didn't have to fight for it anymore. He's a doll, I'd love to see him in a happy home.

Don Gato has come a long way, mama!
  • It looks like Slick may have found a home! A wonderful couple met him today and think he'll be a good fit for their girl kitty. He was a little freaked out but I don't have visitors often so he isn't used to new people. They're picking him up Friday for a trial run, hopefully he and their girl will hit it off. I'm so excited for Slick, he's come such a long way and turned out to be an amazing cat. The only bad thing is that I'm going to miss him terribly.

    Yay for Slick! :D
  • yay for caseopele! and slick!
  • Slick went to his foster to adopt home yesterday, he couldn't have gone to a nicer couple. So why am I so freaking sad? I miss that little f*cker something awful! He's got to be foster/rescue number 14 or 15 but he's the first one I've cried about. My apartment seems so quiet now and I actually thought I heard him last night. I'm nuts!
  • aw....slick was a cutie, I'm glad you found him a nice home...he'll be happy
  • They're too much, aren't they, Caseo...these critters really know how to get under your skin...I'm sorry you miss him- its hard. But remember, you found him a HOME! and you're going to find many more homes for these fuzzy brats in your life's journey, so keep positive about the good deeds you do every day. You're their real-life guardian angel! :flower:
  • Thanks, sweetie! I'm trying!
  • Caseo,
I now totally understand how you feel. The two little kittens I rescued with the help of others on this board (thanks ladies) were only supposed to stay with me for a couple days (since I already have two cats, a dog, and a hubby who has no free space in our tiny apartment) and then go to a foster home. Instead, they're still here and are offically my very first kitten fosters until they are fully socialized and I find them a good home together.
I'm already attached and can't imagine how I'll feel when they're gone. I just keep reminding myself that they are safe and are going to wind up in an awesome forever home. I'm 100% positive I'll shed some tears when the time comes for them to leave me though. Actually, I don't even want to think about it. :(
By the way, thanks for the support and I'll definitely be contacting you soon for some advice.
  • Thankfully, they're not all this hard otherwise I would never have been able to do it! I've always felt I'm like a bridge to their forever homes, and they're meant to be with someone else. Slick really got to me though, he went through so much and ended up bonding with me despite that. I never felt like such a traitor than when I put him in that carrier, I think that was the worst thing for me. Knowing that his last memory of me was a sort of a betrayal even though I knew he was going to a good place. Oy, gotta stop thinking about this for now.

Good luck with the kittens, call or email me anytime!
  • Slick is doing wonderful in his new home and is enjoying their other cat. We hope that Slick has finally found his forever home!
