Park Slopification of the Heights

Carlton between Flatbush and Atlantic is 110% PH. Real estate vampires, I mean agents who call it Park Slope are blatantly lying. SO tired of this elastic neighborhood boundary bull. Who in this case is making this claim? I'd like to make it a point to not do any business with them. :x

wait! gasp! a real-estate agent lying in order to maximaize profits?! why, i never!
*hahahaha* -
more interesting the prospect heights'ification of crown heights. seems the large majority of prospect heights rental listings on craigslist are east of washington - which is crown heights, no?
-
YES, Mr. Putz! It is ridiculous. PH stops at Washington. I'm moving into CroHo {deep into it} in about a month, and it's NOT an extension of PH!
-
they try to sell me a area in like near greenwood Cementary as parkslope. and i'm like dude i live here for 20 years. i know my area's. hell even afew years back i wouldnt consider 5th ave part of park slope. but times have change some areas expand and others contract.
-
i hope it doesn't continue traveling out towards washington... i'm proud to say i live in PH. plus, who wants those park sloper wannabes moving into our neighborhood?
-
Last year there was an open house on Bergen bet. Underhill & Washington by Fillmore and they were calling the area Park slope. I have also seen open houses by other agencies calling the neighborhood PH and when checking for the cross streets the house is all the way by Buffalo Ave.
So the way it goes I will not be surprised if Brooklyn Heights reaches Washington Ave soon. -
It goes the other way, too. I chuckled the other week as I walked by the some ugly new condo building, called something like "The Park Slope Condominium Something-or-Others". It was between 3rd and 4th on Dean, in that unnamed no-mans-land between Park Slope and Boerum Hill.

They dubbed it G-Slope on Curbed. -

I know of a few individuals who have already been bought out by Ratner and who have then gone on to purchase properties in "g-slope" (or Gowanus) that are currently zoned non-residential. They then went through the process of having these properties re-zoned (not sure of the right terminology here) for residential use ... I would imagine that will continue ... -
I've always wondered why people get so upset about neighborhood boundaries. What's the big deal? I've seen posters on chowhound work themselves into a near frenzy when discussing Park Slope, South Slope, Greenwood Heights, etc. It's quite amusing.
Brokers work on commission in a highly competitive business - hence, it shouldn't surprise anyone when they tweak the truth in order to maximize their profits. IMO, it's the buyer's or renter's responsibility to research his or her area of interest prior to searching for a home. That's the best way to protect oneself.
I still consider the border of PH and CH to be Franklin Avenue, but if someone disagrees, then that's fine with me. -
Jack's got it. If you're making a purchasing decision based on the neighborhood, well, sucks to be you when you discover you're on the 'wrong' side of Flatbush.
The better discussion is, how do we keep PH not from being listed geographically as the Slope, but from being overrun with strollers.. -

I suggest building a 3 foot high concrete fence all around PH, no way to get kid-filled strollers over that without a great deal of trouble. just kidding!!! -
in somewhat related news, they've broken ground and are beginning the big dig for the richard meier building in the former union temple parking lot. it was pretty cool watching the crane parked on top of a giant mound of dirt over the weekend.
while it was going to be called one eastern parkway at one point, i guess now it is going to be called number one prospect park. prospect park north? -
Jack, I agree about the boundary thing. It's generally not a big deal. Some are clear cut, while others are vague. The people decide where the boundaries are.
I think ending PH at Washington Ave makes it way too small.
Jack, are you east or west of Washington Ave? -

Yeah I saw that too and kinda eyed it warily yesterday with all the rain. Big crane on top of a big dirt hill might've equaled disaster! -
