That's passed for a while. I was just talking about this with Stanley. It gets somewhat crowded at 5-ish, but there were still ellipticals free yesterday when I was there at 5. And they're the first to fill up.
It was worse a couple weeks ago. -
Sweet. I was actually a member last spring/summer but I was living a little farther away and never ever went (I finally stopped membership after not going for 3 solid months.) Now that I'm closer I think I'll join again- do you happen to know from going there if they're still doign their non-enrollment fee deal? Is that just for first-time members? I'd love to cash in on that if I can and save the $115 or whatever it is.
-
I actually don't know about that - sorry!
-
Ah no prob- theres a sign outside on the doors but I've been avoiding the outside for about 3 days now. maybe its time to put on a jacket and stop surfing amazon...

Subject: Hurry UP
I'n near positive the enrollment thing either ends today (the 4th) or yesterday (ouch) so get on the horn and start calling.
Maybe you shouldn't join as it does get pretty slammed from 6 to 7ish.
Here's a tip, unless they've changed their sign up process, it's quite possible you could join the Freelancer's Union online and generate a 'proof of membership' letter right away. Worth a 20% discount and possibly a waive of the enrollment fee.
They've done a lot to the place in the past couple years. Tons and tons (literally) of new, nice equipment, extra lockers and one can tell they're trying with the towel service. Plus, about two years ago they expanded the crap out of the treadmill room. Super nice.
I'm going there right now. I'll update on enrollment date when I get back. -
Sweet, thanks for the tip! I think I'm actually enrolled in the freelancer's union...
-
I got the freelancer's union discount! Makes it... 47 instead of 59. But the enrollment fee waiver stopped on the 2nd.
However, I will say that its really crowded for my tastes after work. If I worked local, I would go for my lunch break instead of later!
Although it's crowded, it's doable. -
Yeah, I work from home and I live 4 blocks from the Y, but I still somehow never manage to make it there before 5. Today was the first day, however, that the girls in the free weight room outnumbered the boys. That was kinda nice. (I think the boys liked it too.)

I just got back from the Y a little while ago and it was still pretty packed. It also looks like they are getting strick on the 30 minute time limit if people are waiting.
I second the suggestion, that if you work locally, and can pull it off go early.
Plus, don't know if you've checked it out or not, but they have an off-hours membership which is about $300-400 for the entire year. -
So as I was working out this afternoon at the Y (wondering which of you were there as well) and while riding the elevator overheard an employee giving a tour say that they've extended the no-fee enrollment until FRIDAY.
Hop on yer moped and git on over there. -
I avoid the gym in January and February until the new years resolutioners wear themselves out.
-
Yeah, but Stanley says they're back again in May, prepping for swimsuit season. And then in September again, like back to schoolers. So there's waves.

i've been meaning to call over there, i heard they had big discounts for low income residents. anyone know anything about this?

The YMCA does have scholarships. It can't hurt to apply.
