Public humiliation on the internets? -
I give people spankings.
In actual fact a dumpster on the street requires a city permit. No one ever actually gets the permit so no one can actually prove it's their dumpster. If you actually get caught and the police are summoned make the asshole prove it's their permitted dumpster. I mean try not to get caught, but deny, deny and deny. you were simply picking up broken toilets off the street and disposing of them in the closest thing you saw. Whatever. There's a great movie starring Jeremy Irons called Moonlighting (1982). I think its about a Polish immigrant in London who is looked down upon by the rich neighbors in a neighborhood he is doing demolition work in only to find one night all of them have filled his dumpster with their garbage. -
I dumped about 40 pounds worth of wood in a dumpster last night. This morning I went past the dumpster and called the owner. he asked if it was overflowing and I said it wasnt. He said not to worry about it and if its an issue he will call me once he takes a look at it.
...........just want to do the right thing. -
So who do you think he's going to blame when someone else overflows the dumpster? Like they say "no good deed goes unpunished".
Stupid -
I used to work at a school in Greenwich Village that needed a dumpster about once a year. It gave us all sorts of grief. It was delivered in the middle of the night and by the time we showed up it was full and one time they forgot to pick it up and we got all sorts of tickets. A scavenger once fell in and got hurt.... Big problem.

Nothing happens, except maybe bad karma. It's the same as dumping your trash in someone else's trash cans (except they're paying out more for the dumpster).
That's why you're supposed to cover a rented dumpster at night; otherwise the entire neighborhood will take advantage of it. -
flux--funny, you did the exact right thing! used common sense; i.e., that dumpster ain't near full (you'd be amazed how much you can load them) and then spoke to your neighbor. i applaud both actions.
if it's not hurting anyone, share your resources!! -
my contractor once left the dumpster uncover
, next morning thing was full of the neighbors garbage. i had to pay for a new one next day. surprising people save garbage years full of it. they could get rid of them legally and cheaply via city pickups during recycle days. -
Flux... Kudos to you. Because you are an honest an honest, well meaning person you did what was clearly the right thing to do in this situation.
Howdy, Stranger!
