man with a van reccomendations? — Brooklynian

man with a van reccomendations?

Has anyone used one of these services that they would care to reccomend? I have a bunch of stuff to move from ProHo to south slope - too much for a car service, but too little for a U-Haul. I'd call one at random, but I'm a little paranoid about loading my worldly possesions into some total strangers car.

thanks in advance

some car services have vans and SUVs -- for instance, 11th St Car Service
I like them 'cause they are nice about picking you up at the airport, and will call to check if your flight is on time AND they are nice about taking dogs in the cars when you let them know you've got a dog. If you don't really need the Man part of Man/Van, car service vans are great.
  • you know u-haul has incredibly cheap in-town rates--something like $20 for a van and not much more for trucks. that's what i use, unless you need the labor.

if you do need the labor, i can't recommend a particular man with van, but i will warn you of one thing: there used to be, and probably are still, these signs up all over the nabe with a giant "$18," which claim to be per man per hour. used them once and never again. shady, sleazy ripoff artists not worth the seemingly cheap price, which turns out not to be the real price anyway.

I found this guy and his "man with a van" service on Craig's List while I was moving to Sunset Park or "South Slope" as the brokers like to call it. His van is old, but reliable. He's a hard worker and very fair about his pricing. $30 an hour and surprisingly, not only will he help you carry stuff, if you get done in 30 minutes, he only charges you $15.
  • a great guy is Tony -- 917-915-4480 -- does garbage pick-up as well.
