Roti — Brooklynian

Roti

Have a serious craving for good roti lately. Interested in where you guys think is best, preferably for lunchtime. Know there was a discussion on this a while ago (been lurking on here for a while). As I recall the lady that ran the consensus best place -Gloria's or Glenda's, can't quite remember - was supposed to be retiring around that time. Would love to get an update & see what everyone likes now. Thanks!

  • Gloria's is very good and has several locations on Nostrand Ave. Ali's Roti Shop is good also and has several locations as well and has been in business for years. If you want a good boneless chicken roti then the Golden Palace (I think that is the name) on Nostrand Ave tween Sterling and near the corner of St Johns is good. Just a few of my favorites. I will say Gloria's is my preference for a beef roti and I like to get the roti unwrapped, the meat seperate from the flatbread.
  • Ali's Roti is my go-to, but I can't say I've ever had *bad* roti either.
Or am I living a charmed life where all roti purveyors in Bklyn rate somewhere on the scale from good to phenomenal?

Known as "buss up shot." I like it both ways. Buss up shot always reminds me of Malaysian roti canai.
  • I like Glenda's on Saint Johns and Nostrand for rotis.
  • ive only had Ali's on flatbush but my friend who grew up in Trinidad said it was good.
  • I don't really like Gloria's, the couple times I've been there the roti has been too salty. My favorite is the Ginger Root on Washington. Still have to try Glenda's.
  • I've always loved the dhal pourri roti at "Foods For U" at Church Ave near New York Ave, although I hear the owners changed recently and I haven't been since then.
  • Also the roti truck on Clarkson Ave outside Kings County Hospital is actually quite good, although it's a little more expensive than other roti in the neighborhood.
