toilet problem - plumber?

anyone has any recommendation for a plumber? or maybe someone could advice?

im having problem with one of my toilets, it doesnt flush very well as if there is something stuck there, and it has been going on for months. i've tried using plunger, and auger, but it seems clear. i dont know what's in there.

Time to call a plumber. i know a great guy, very reasonably priced. Just last week he came over and fixed 2 leaking radiators in my apartment for $125.00.

im inexperienced in calling a plumber before, how does it work? do you pay him by hour or he has to come over and have a look first then give you the quote, or how is it?

This guy will come over and check out your problem and tell you what needs to be done to fix it and what it will cost. Some plumbers charge by the hour, he does not. I called him last Tuesday at 8:30 in the morning, explained my problem to him over the phone, he was at my house by 11 am.

He looked at both radiators, accessed what was wrong with each of them and then told me that it would be $125.00 to fix them both (he also explained to me what the problem was with each of them, they had different problems). He fixed them, i paid him (in cash, he has done bigger jobs for me and I paid him by check for those) and he left.

One time I called him for a plumbing problem under my kitchen sink, From what i told him over the phone, he realized that what I really needed was s sewer company, he gave me the name and phone number of one to call. i called them and they did a great job. So, if it is something he feels he can't deal with, he will steer you in the right direction.

Let me ask a silly question here. You do own your apartment/house, right? Because if you rent, you should be calling your landlord, not paying a plumber.

Stay away from those Sudden Service Plumbers.

we should somehow someway someday create a global thread or listing of recommended and non-recommended plumbers, contractors, etc.

make sure it is not lime ...which would make the water enter the toilet from the tank slowly, causing it not to flush.

LimeAway (something like $15 at hardware stores) might be something you want to try before you call the plumber.

there is no problem with water from tank entering toilet, it's more like the water in toilet bowl doesnt drain away, at least very very slowly. We took the tank apart a while ago thinking it might be the tank problem, and have cleaned it while at it, but the tank seems okay.

thanks LTS and ringrunner, he sounds like a good plumber, maybe i'll give him a call tomorrow. and yes, we own the apartment.
