Support FB Enterprises in Prospect Heights!

Local P'Hts. DH'ers, we are lucky to have a business like FB Enterprises in our neighborhood. I lived here for two years before I realized that there is a better-than-Mailboxes Etc. store because of the easy-to-miss awning. It is located on the corner of Prospect Pl. and Washington Ave. It is the most relaxing, painless, near rejuvenating postal experience around. Usually there are no lines, so wait time is minimal, although after I post this that might change. The owner, Haleijah, is welcoming and warm, and the music is great!

  • ya know, I've never actually looked inside there and always kind of wondered what they did (but not enough to find out) I thought it was one of these businesses that had an office in a storefront as opposed to a true retail business.

Shows the value, or lack thereof, that a good name can have.
  • Yeah, I figured if it took me so long to realize what the place was, there are pobably a lot of other people who walk by the place all the time as well. It's the kind of place that so few neighborhoods have, where local goings-on and neighborhood news passes lips. It's the antithesis of Mayday hardware.

The hours pretty much blow, though.:cry::cry::cry:
  • True, but they compare , for the most part, with U.S.P.S. hours. But it's only a couple blocks away!

You've certainy heard music coming from that storefront. I used to live in the building next door and know the owner, Hialejah, very well. He's a professional drummer (latin jazz/cuban drumming) and for a few years, his band would practice there on Sunday nights. Also, before it was a post office, he used to hold dance lessons there...his brother teaches "the hustle." Its a real community spot and Hialejah has been in the neighborhood for many, many years. He's also a master woodworker and can build just about anything (headboards, dressers, shelves, windowpanes, etc.) All of the beautiful carving and woodwork in FB Enterprises was done by him. He was responsible for building all of those flowerboxes that popped up along Washington ave. a few years ago. :D
  • Please everyone, ignore these posts and don't use FB. I want it to remain the fantastic uncrowded postal experience it is...
  • This is an amazing website. And an amazing neighborhood.

    I agree 100 percent!

I didn't know what FB Enterprises was for a long time either, until one day when I was walking by, I noticed a handwritten sign in the door that read "post office" !

FB is awesome -- super friendly and chill -- the absolute polar opposite experience of going to the real post office! I always leave with a big smile on my face and feeling a 'part' of the neighborhood -- the owner never fails to remember his customers, and he is always a pleasure to talk to. I always try to mail my pacakges there (even though I agree, they have limited opening hours!), and I hope he is well-supported in the neighborhood.
