I have bought an old building and I wish to renovate it so that it can be used for commercial offices. I am in the process of locating and hiring a contractor for the overall renovation work. Any suggestions where can I find a reputable contractors? Thanks in advance.

  • talk to an architect. They are likely to know who does this kind of work, and the contractors want to stay on their good side.

Contractors don't do a good job to make the present customer happy, they do a good job to get the next job. If you have no potential to get them the "next job" they are not going to do a good job on your job....

Architect is a good idea -- you might need a consultant to get the code and zoning right on the switch to residential anyway.

I may have the initials wrong - it's R-something - the main guy is Richard. Great guy, nice work. He's done some commercial properties in Park Slope (Sankura Japanese on 5th Ave, the martial arts school on Union (3/4 Ave) and Bell House, the new music venue in Gowanus) and he/his guys did great work on my house.
