LOL!
I hope this is true.
I swear to God , I was laying on the couch watching Harry Potter (shut it!) on my pc last night and I needed to pause the movie so I can go get a popcorn refill and I leaned over to tap the screen!!! I'm so use to the ipod touch . Anyway , then the thought of "damn it would be really cool if my pc was a touch screen",popped in my head.

I'm not happy about that Shuffle, to tell you the truth. Since the only buttons, therefore the only way to control volume and songs, are on the earphones cord you're stuck with Apple's earbuds. Don't know about you, but they're always falling out of my ears. Apple says they're going to sell an attachment for other earphones to be used, but then you're likely out another $20-$30.
As for the touchscreen, there's a debate as to whether it's for a netbook or a tablet. I'm actually hoping it's for a tablet that can be used as a proper reader so I can have a choice between getting that or the Kindle. -

I assume a touchscreen netbook would also function as a tablet, no?

Would it have a physical keyboard, or just the one that pops up on the screen? If it has a keyboard AND screen I would think it'd be a bit clunkier to carry around than a Kindle or Sony's e-reader. Basically, what I'm hoping for is a larger iTouch that can double as an e-reader. For me, the screen on the iPhone/iTouch is too small to do a lot of reading, but on a larger screen it would be fine. Plus, a color screen might do some serious damage to the other e-readers out there, which are all B&W (although easier on the eyes for a lot of people). Anyway, we'll likely find out in June, when Apple has their next developers conference.

Can I just say that these technologies do NOTHING for people who are visually impaired?
I mean I am glad you all can read books on kindle but eeeeeesh. -

The new tiny ipod shuffle *speaks* the name of the artist and song. Helllloooo?

Actually, this tech can be quite good for the visually impaired (depending on how impaired). You can change the font on the Kindle, making it easier to read than normal. On top of that, they have a text to speech function (although the authors' guild is keeping the option of shutting that off), but the computerized voice is no substitute for a proper audio book.
I mean I am glad you all can read books on kindle but eeeeeesh.
And before anyone thinks I'm a shill for the Kindle, I'm actually not a fan due to the pricing of the books, which is an entirely different post. -
Nope. Sorry. I saw it and it contrast is horrible. dark grey text on grey background. And yep, that computerized voice gets old quick.
-
I'll read to you, butter cup. Now quit your bitchin'.
-
K. Thanks. But you will skip all the juicey parts!
-
Of course. You're not old enough for all that. You're only 16!

Can you visually describe my Playboy at least?

I have a friend that has been doing his doctorate work (comp sci) on software for the visually impaired. I got to be one of his seeing test subjects as they tested out different things. He also, of course, had visually impaired folks testing programs and it was really interesting to hear how the two groups responded to the program and what they did or did not notice (like the unimpaired tended to not notice how different voices were associated with specific tasks, etc.)
I mean I am glad you all can read books on kindle but eeeeeesh.
And yeah, the kindle can read books but the ignorant publishing industry is trying to prevent that.
Cool stuff going on down in North Carolina! -
Oh yeah? What kind of software? The programs we use are pretty solid so I am always curious when someone comes up with a new one.

It's the Authors' Guild, not the publishing industry. -

The stuff I got to try was pretty much a way to use existing systems/programs, but you needed to be able to type (know the keyboard). I had never really imagined how someone who had any kind of visual impairment might be able to use a computer almost the same way as most of us, so just the tests I took were very enlightening. It seemed much better than I expected (in that way that Macs just kind of work and it's not hard to figure them out). No idea on project status now. We live in different states and they have more pressing personal issues than discussing the projects now
