Eastern Athletic Club

Anyone a member at Eastern Athletic? Thinking about a membership there and was wondering if it's a good place to join. How much is membership? Perhaps they may be offering a recession special.

  • It's about 110 a month, kinda expensive. They just lost their Brooklyn Bridge Marriott location. -- so it is just clark street and eastern parkway. the pools are on the small size, but the equipment rooms are pretty good. I just made the decision to switch to the Dodge YMCA-- for just 63 a month, and save some dough.
  • I don't belong there, but I did get a flyer in my mail about a special like you thought they might have, PHrez. I think the sale was for less than $800 for the year.
  • They send out that flyer every so often...but it's not for a full year...more like $800 for 8 months. I forget the exact deal, but it always strikes me as expensive.
  • It is- I joined when they did that special once- only it was for 10 months rather than the 8 for this past one. Honestly- I LOVED it. It was clean and quiet, the views from the sauna (now gone from the Meier building) were spectacular. But, it IS expensive. If you want to spoil yourself, go for it.
  • If you're in the teacher's union, or work for certain big corporations they have a corporate discount - it's worth asking if you go in to ask about membership. I ended up paying only about $80/mo that way.

The major plus about this place is that is is neeeeeeever crowded. It almost borders on creepily empty. Seems strange for an NYC gym, but I think it's priced fairly prohibitively for most folks.

Oh, and they're also not open Friday nights after 6pm and Saturday's before 1pm (I suspect b/c it's attached to the temple).
