Stop complaining then and enjoy the "diversity" if you know what i mean, lol! Tell them how you love the multicultural world, let's see if it stops them from robbing or raping you. I know, it did not work for Nicole duFresne

You wouldn't say that if you were that poor woman who got raped by that "raceless" rapist, wouldn't you? Tells us something about your ability to empathize. If truth is inconvenient then it must be ridiculed. You must be a lawyer, if not then you must go to a law school ASAP! You have a great career ahead of you - they might even let you kiss the footprint in Central Park that Johnnie Cochran left when he was celebrating his victory in OJ trial :afro: -
ok i'll get right on that law school application. can you write a recommendation for me? that'd be the swellest thing ever.
-
To answer copilot 7777's question as to why my daughter moved to the neighborhood she did... she has no money. And, in fact, 2 weeks after she moved was laid off and REALLY has no money for anything now.
She does like the diversity of neighborhoods. And one of the main challenges she had finding a place was because she has a cat that she wouldn't give up for the world.
So that made finding somewhere else more difficult because she kept running into allergy issues with prospective roommates.
And the thought of all the kids out of school for the summer and hanging out in the projects nearby late at night does concern me. But she's a grown woman who makes her own choices. Given her druthers, she would have loved to have stayed in Ft.Greene, but was priced out of it. Either she lived there and had no money for student loans, transportation or food, for that matter. Or she moved and could only hope for the best.
Sometimes hoping for the best is all you can do. -
Don't mind copilot, they're just scared of their own shadow.

I'm sorry to hear that she was priced out! I hate when people are priced out, reminds me of people who are forced to abandon their dwellings because of bank repos. I do believe that our neighborhoods are more important to us than our houses or apartments, which transform into our little private fortresses slash jail cells if there's danger on the streets. As for me, i'm always thankful to my parents who helped us out when we were in school :salut: . God Bless our parents and God Bless you and your daughter

To rtraindweller: Who's scared of their own shadow? Are you talking about us or copilot7777??
And to copilot7777, thanks for the blessing. We're struggling though putting out second child through college. And with looming layoffs at my husbands work next month, it's pretty unsettling. He's made it though 3 layoffs, but the word is that they'll be firing 400 people from his building alone. And if that happens we're in deep trouble, like the rest of the country. -

Did you daughter consider any other parts of brooklyn? You can find a lots of pretty cheap studios or apartmentrs there and neighborhoods are just fantabulous, especially if you have religious jews live nearby, they are probably the safest streets in the world. Yes, there are not a lot of bars but what constitutes a good or a bad neighborhood? A bar? Or a tattoo parlor? We, humans, lived without them for thousands of years and survived. I say screw bars and eateries - SAFETY FIRST! I would rather have a nice oak tree on my street than a "nice" bar.

O crap, the damned layoffs. ...............400 people in one building alone?! I'm not gonna ask you what your husband does for a living but "400 people" sounds like Manhattan. Too bad it's almost impossible to find out who's next unless you have "connections" in human resources  -
I have no idea why my daughter decided on this area other than she was down to the wire and had only a few days left to find somewhere to live.
And I totally agree that she could have looked in areas that were not as challenging to live in. But it was, again, her choice.
And my husband is in systems security and works in Jersey. I think there are 1500 people in his building, so they'd be cutting 30+% of the staff at that location. And even his bosses are sweating it out cause you never know how they'll choose who gets the ax.
What a world, what a world.......... -

talking to copilot. your inquiry was more than valid and i hope everyone who responded to your thread helped you ease any worries about your daughter moving to that part of Brooklyn. I'm refraining from reading any more of copilot's posts as they just make me shake my head far more than I like to on a weekday.

Thanks rtraindweller, I wasn't sure what you had meant.
I've asked my daughter how she likes her new neighborhood and she says she likes it and feels safe. She just keeps her eyes open and is aware of her surroundings.
I guess that's all you can ask for... -

Yeah, I agree I don't know what copilot is talking about. Can we all say 'troll'?? anyway Dakota, glad to hear she is enjoying the neighborhood, it is a fun spot. Be sure to check out bushwickbk.com its a great little resource for all that is happening in our hood, new restaurants, art openings, music shows, etc!! -
Glad to hear she's enjoying it as well. Tell her to stop by Duck Duck on Friday's and say hi to my friend Denis bartending and play a game of gigantic Connect Four!

What happened? "inconvenient truth" isn't it? Your disbelief seems like a defense mechanism -- Denial?
Tell them what they all want to hear - If you want to stay away from trouble in NYC, then, in general, you must STAY AWAY FROM MINORITIES, period. If you see a group of young black men in or around ghetto, cross the road, don't approach, stay away as far as possible (go to the Moon). If you want your wife to be safe, tell her to be extra careful when she is near those "hoods".
You don't have to be paranoid but BE AWARE. On the other hand, if you see a group of young Hasidic people in Crown Heights, you can relax and pass them by without looking over your shoulder.

Attorney General Says Americans Are ‘Cowards’ on Racial Matters
Thursday, February 19, 2009
By Susan Jones, Senior Editor
(CNSNews.com) – Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday told an audience at the Justice Department that despite the nation’s progress on racial relations, “we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards.”
Holder, the nation’s first black attorney general, was speaking at an African-American History Month program.
“One cannot truly understand America without understanding the historical experience of black people in this nation,” Holder said. “Simply put, to get to the heart of this country, one must examine its racial soul.
“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards. Though race-related issues continue to occupy a significant portion of our political discussion, and though there remain many unresolved racial issues in this nation, we, average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race.”
Holder said Americans have “never been at ease” with the subject. “And yet, if we are to make progress in this area, we must feel comfortable enough with one another, and tolerant enough of each other, to have frank conversations about the racial matters that continue to divide us.”

This whole discussion about safety is pointless if you don't include the RACE factor. But be careful, don't let minorities hear that, cause there could be a riot........again

I'm truly sorry for destroying your little white world, old man. Now go back to your "pancake" and "this awesome new latte" board -
ummm ok? i mean like pancakes (who the fuck doesnt??) and all and i've enjoyed a latte once or twice but i prefer my coffee black. i think the little white world you're referring to is the little TROLL HOLE you're poking you're useless face out of. howdy and see you later, you're fear mongering is not needed here nor anywhere. but nice try and i wish you the best of luck next time on Only 100% White Areas Of Brooklyn Are Ok. Mondays at 9pm on FOX. And old man? odds are brother you're older than I. But I mean if you wanna call me old man we can resort to those times where an ol pappy would send a young to the store for some smokes, some beers and maybe some milk (2% please). now go do as ol pappy says and make with the booze and tobaccy 'fore i tans yer hide!
you're fun, i revoke my statement where i ignore your posts. -

I see no strong emotions there, only an average brooklynite(new yorker) with average interests. I can assume that you were probably an idealistic fella 10-15 years ago but lost it somewhere between your politically correct "daily routines" and your afternoon coffee breaks. You just want to GET ALONG with everybody, you belive in the inherent goodness of all beings, and you call your parents once a week(month, year, millenium) Yet it is not enough to make the difference, especially when you are dealing with crime. YOU MUST BE AGGRESSIVE! It is the only way. If you can't fight THEM then you must "aggressively avoid" THEM. I know, "all human beings are inherently good" but "inherently" is the key word here, it means that they have it HIDDEN somewhere, beyond the outer layer of anger, jealousy and anxiety. Some may appear "normal", even perfect but it is just an illusion, just like a wax apple in that window display. Some people are inherently ...lost, they lost their sanity even before they were born, they were destined to ...yet they struggle with their 'bad destiny' and manage to keep IT hidden from society. They grow up, go to college/get a job/get fired/get a job again and become 'good average dudes' by the time they are 40 years old. We are not talking about them, we are talking about people who are "not yet there", people who are willing to rob, rape and steal. This is REALITY! Fear mongering or not, just look at the statistics - the numbers are there for you. We will not turn it into a racial discussion but...........we can't deny the ugly truth. We all know that there are more racist blacks in New York than racist whites, try to go to Jamaica, Queens, and you will get STARES all day long, they clearly show you that you are not welcomed there. You stay on the surface of issues and i can't blame you for that, but remember, if there would be a natural disaster of some sort, guess who's gonna get robbed first? Which neighborhood? Will THEY come to you? Or will you rob them first? Answer me! Can You? That's what i thought!
Any discussion about safety in New York is INCOMPLETE if you don't mention the areas to avoid and the predominant skin color their inhabitants
 -
My favorite kind of pizza is pepperoni but buffalo chicken pizza is a close second.

Subject: A little consolation
If it's any consolation, I am a 23 year old girl and lived in the same area as your daughter for 1.3 years. 5 of my friends lived in the same building, 3 lived a couple blocks away. Nothing ever happened to us, and 6 of them still live there. Obviously there are much safer neighborhoods, but by practicing good judgement as well as being safe and cautious and careful at night I think she'll be okay. The best advice I can give is to take a taxi or go out in a group if it's late at night. Good luck to you and your daughter! -
Thanks for the input Brooklynemily. I know she'll be OK there.

Copilot needs a life, race has nothing to do with it, its social class. There are poor white people on crack that are eyeing little school girls touching themselves waiting until the girls all alone so they can kidnap her. Go to other states and see the poor white and what they would do to you. Go to europe and see their version of minorities, and see the crimes they commit, go to albania and see the crimes and horrific murders that happen there. Theres vicious crimes everywhere, and its almost always from the lower social class, and even in different classes as well.
And I'm latino, and I'm not a criminal. And you are white (I'm assuming), and you are a scared sorry person, but you dont see me assuming all whites are like you.
You should also worry about your significant other, those minorities might sweep her off her feet with you being all scared and frail and all. -
