Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill ATM Overcharges — Brooklynian

Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill ATM Overcharges

I've noticed that everytime I go to an ATM along Fulton Street (between Nostrand and Washington Ave) I am always double charged for convenience fees.

For example I went to the Met grocery store on Fulton and Hall Street - later that week I look at my bank statement and I got charged once for $1.75 and again for $1.50! Meanwhile, while I was making the transaction I was notified that I would be charged for $1.75 only. This has happened to me many times.

My bank is not charging me a withdrawal fee to use other ATMs - I know this because this double-dipping fees have only happened since I moved to Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill and started using the ATMs there.

I suppose it's only a buck fifty loss but it irritates me that the area businesses think that it's okay to take advantage of the people in the neighborhood.

I must also note that the ATM at the check cashing place on Fulton & Franklin is legit and I would assume that the Chase bank is all right too. All those bodegas can suck it, though.

RANT OVER.

haha! that's what i usually do on the days where i lack shame - but every once in awhile i feel like a cheapskate and can't bring myself to do it. but anyway, IT'S THE PRINCIPLE!
  • My bank (etrade) reimburses me for any and all atm fees. No stupid "service" fees either. If you can live without a storefront bank (deposits are by mail) and are comfortable using a computer (to check balance, etc) then you might give them a try. Feels good to avoid the local banking giants.
  • i get the same benefits through a credit union. definitely worth looking into.

Besides Whole Foods, Trader Joes, CVS and the post office, I have yet to find a reliable cash back place.

Where are these buy some gum cash back places you speak of?

as much as i HATE the associated grocery store on fulton/franklin and think that it needs to be shut down permanently, they do offer $20 max cash backs.
