Passion Play in Park Slope
Passion Play / Friday / April 10 @ 8pm
The Brooklyn community is invited to attend a Good Friday service at 8:00 pm at Park Slope UMC, which will include a Tenebrae Passion Play within the service. “Tenebrae” is Latin for “shadows,” with candles being extinguished as the Story is told, ending in darkness and momentary silence.
Park Slope United Methodist Church, one of Brooklyn's most progressive, social justice seeking congregations, for the last four years has offered a reading and re-enactment of Jesus’ last days, a story that ends at the crucifixion. An ensemble of players and readers, assembled by actor/director Kathryn Dickinson of White Bird Productions’ local Creative Theatrics program, simply moves through the story using biblical text. Music will accompany the play, performed by local professionals Lloyd Miller and Ledell Mulvaney, in addition to that provided by music director Pam McAllister. This passion play is incorporated within the worship service, led by Reverend Herb Miller.
Though geared towards an adult audience, children as young as 7 or 8 years of age have found it a moving experience. All are invited, no matter what religious affiliation you may or may not claim, as you do not need to be a member of our church (or any) to attend. [/b]
