Con Ed repairs on 46th street; status?

During/after that big snowstorm in early March, there was a manhole fire and then electrical outages/problems on 46th b/w 4th and 5th (this when it was freezing cold -- remember that?). Con Ed dug a huge trench that goes halfway down the block, and it's covered with flimsy plastic grates. There's been no perceptible activity there for weeks, and what is going on? The grates are dangerous -- there are big gaps between them, and of course now half the block is completely inaccessible to parking.

Anyone know the story and/or why Con Ed abandoned it? Calling them has gotten nowhere. They just say "we don't show any problems on that block." :roll: :evil:

update: they fixed it yesterday. Happy block! Happy block! Not sure whose phone call did it. That, and the big sinkhole in the street that was filled Easter Sunday (right in front of a church with services in progress, too. Gotta love this city).
