Anyone want my turtle?
yeah I bought one of those red-eared sliders from some kid on the subway. I bought a tank too, filters, lights, rocks, etc. the whole deal.
But I am having to condense my possessions and I will not be able to keep him. So I'm either going to give it all away to someone who just loves turtles (maybe a school?) or he will have to make it on his own in July when I take him upstate a friends pond.
If interested, PM me. I can deliver it.

Easy Solution to your Delema:
Turtle Soup, just reduce portions according to size of turtle :Commander's Palace Turtle Soup au Sherry
10 ounces (2-1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 pound turtle meat, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 cup minced celery (4 stalks)
2 medium onions, minced (2 medium)
1-1/2 teaspoons garlic, minced
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1-1/2 cups tomato purée
1 quart beef stock
NOTE: If turtle bones are available, add them to the beef bones when making the stock for this dish
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, as needed
1/2 cup lemon juice
5 hard-boiled eggs, finely chopped
1 tablespoon minced parsley
6 teaspoons dry sherry
Melt 8 ounces (2 sticks) butter in a heavy saucepan. Add the flour and cook, stirring frequently, over medium heat until the roux is light brown. Set aside.
In a 5-quart saucepan, melt the remaining butter and add turtle meat. Cook over high heat until the meat is brown. Add celery, onions, garlic and seasonings, and cook until the vegetables are transparent.
Add tomato purée, lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the stock and simmer for 30 minutes. Add the roux and cook over low heat, stirring, until the soup is smooth and thickened. Correct seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Add lemon juice, eggs and parsley.
Remove from heat and serve. At the table, add 1 teaspoon sherry to each soup plate. -
Please don't go there. First off, he would supply much meat. Secondly, I've kind of grown fond of the little critter. He gets all excited when I come home from work (he knows he will be fed soon).
Oh and his name is Mr. T -
Sean Casey Animal Rescue would be the rescue group to try.

yeah you know when I first got him (long story) my friends said, "Just flush him down the toilet." But I'm not like that. So I went out and bought all that stuff and gave him a good life. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever (I need to tell that to the bohomeless friend crashing on my sofa). So I called 311, got all these numbers, but they usually wanted money to take him (he was the size of a quarter) and it was cheaper for me to buy all that stuff (on Craigslist) then transport him to a place where they will take my money and then flush him down the toilet.
I'm hoping a school may want him, or a family. -
I like the school idea. Some of my co-workers have birthed spawn. I could ask them, too, if you want.

I second the Sean Casey Animal Rescue suggestion. He's an expert on reptiles- including turtles - and would find your turtle a great home. 718-436-5163

Thanks for the info, yeah anyone who wants to or can ask around, it would be appreciated.

That's the dude! I guess mine is over 4 inches now so it doesn't have salmonella and I can eat him.
And he will be going to an A-Team pond upstate. -
If you still have him at the end of May pm me.

My son's school make take him-they already have a fish. I could ask when school opens up again-by the way, what size tank is he in? We had turtles a while ago with my older kid, maybe we will take him. Let me know

Thank you to all who responded. Mr. T has a new home as of yesterday. A fellow Brooklynian reached out and took him. It was a sad departure. I will miss the little bugger and I have fond memories of him and me together. But he is in a better place now.

And, her name is now Shelley
