Man on 4th Ave Dean Yesterday — Brooklynian

Man on 4th Ave Dean Yesterday

Did anyone see the man who was passed out on the corner of 4th Ave & Dean yesterday afternoon? He was laying on his side, with his pants down. I wasn't sure what to do. Went home. Thought about calling 311. I eventually went back to see if he was still there. He wasn't. Just wondering if he got help from the police or got up on his own.

I've seen him passed on out Dean before. I hate to see people in this condition. It's so sad.

I guess I'll call the Homeless Helpline to ask them what to do if I see him again.

Give him a bus ticket to San Francisco.
  • Whenever I see someone passed out on the street (not sleeping, but unconscious) I call an ambulance. I don't know what 311 is going to do.

As a mini rant, I passed a guy on 14th street in the city who was clearly mid-overdose and 10 people were standing around not doing a damn thing. This kind of thing really bothers me. How hard is it to pick up the phone and get someone some help.
  • ^Agreed! in this day and age when everyone and their mother has a cell phone, call someone! Call the police at minimum!

dats what you SHOULD have done
so we could laff at him
  • You can call 311 and ask them to connect you to the Department of Homeless Services Outreach team. They will send someone to the location to assess the situation and get the person in shelter if they agree to it.
  • I came upon a similar situation a few months back and I'm happy to say three guys had already stopped and called an ambulance and were waiting, one holding the seizing guy's dog. Nobody left until the ambulance got there and they could tell the medics what they had seen.

As a dog owner I decided to worry about the dog which had a tag on it. I just imagine my grandmother in that situation and hope somebody would do the same for her. Karma, like on Earl :)

So, we do have some good folks in the neighborhood and there were three of them right there with that guy I saw, on a very cold day.
  • And to the OP, there are times when it's not obvious what to do. You could try talking to the person and just see if he was awake and ask if wanted or seemed like he needed help.
