Love Liquors Robbery? — Brooklynian

Love Liquors Robbery?

Does anyone know what went down at Love Liquors on Washington last night around 7:15pm? As I was walking home, I saw the owner holding a towel to his head (as if he'd been hit) while another guy was quickly locking the door and shuttering the windows. Minutes later, two cop cars and an ambulance showed up.

That's such a highly trafficked part of Washington (near Eastern Parkway) that time of night, I'm shocked a robbery/assualt would happen there at that time.

It's a bummer nonetheless, as the folks who run the place are very nice and helpful, and they run a decent shop.

Oh man! I walked past about 7:45 and there were about 3 cop cars and an ambulance outside, so I was wondering what was going on.

That does suck. Even if they were jackasses and they ran a horrible shop, I wouldn't wish that on 'em...

I just bought 2 bottles of wine from them the other day! That is MY store!
That is my store and the guy is so nice!

Those punks! Did they really rob him? I hope no one was hurt.
It was probably some junkies ormpunk kids but I hope they catch them if it was a robbery.

I will stop by to see what happened tonight. I really like that guy (His brother owns the hardware store down the street on Washington Ave)
I hope this will not turn them in to a "plexi-mart" with the plexi glass separation between the customers and owners... I hate that.

    Hey,

I just came from Love Liquors on Washingon and Lincoln.
They were NOT robbed and no one from the store was hurt. In fact the owners were not present when it happened.

Apparently there was a shop-lifting attempt there.
They are very nice there so please support them:

I would suggest the "Estrella" Pinot Noir!
It is very good. I bought 2 bottles.

    Support your local mom-pop businesses!!

  • hey now, take it easy on the punx!

speaking of love liquors, does no one else think its sketchy that there are all of those boxes for (and full of?) tvs and computers and expensive shit stacked up in the back behind the register? i always assumed that they had a little something on the side going on in there.
  • Yea, but what's up with the payment process?

You put your items on the counter. Guy at counter tells guy at register behind desk the prices on the bottles. Guy at register totals everything and tells guy at counter the total and hands him a coffee mug. Guy at counter tells customer the total. Customer hands money to guy at counter. Guy at counter tells guy at register how much money you paid and puts it into the mug and hands it back to guy at register. Guy at register puts your change (if any) in mug and hands mug to guy at counter. Guy at counter gives customer change and purchased items.

But hey, they must have a reason for it. Probably just like there must be a reason for all the computer equipment. But it's none of my business. I just went in to buy alcohol.

    yes,

It is a little strange but it beats plexi.
I think it is a defensive mechanism also - remember this is still a shady neighborhood. It is not completely gentrified. They do have their share of knuckleheads that venture in and out regularly:

It is a liquor store, people!!

Not sure but I think the Asian woman and the guy with the hat and glasses own the store... ( husband and wife??) and they handle the register to keep track of the cash. Most small mom and pop places have the owners only handle the register becasue who the hell can you trust?
Most people pay in cash too.

But they are forced to watch everyone with a certain amount of distrust as if you are a potential shoplifter. I think many people attempt to steal from them and alcohol is expensive. If I owned that store, I would probably have to have the same system. Remember, They have been there for a while ( more than 10 years) so I would guess they have tried other methods unsuccessfully.
