Phone outage 22nd/23rd Sts btwn 6th/7th Aves
Just in from our local news group:
Our phones went out this morning...seems actually 42 households are out..which may be affecting most of the upper parts of the block of 23rd St/ 22nd St btwn 6th and 7th Aves. The Verizon tech said there's a priority call into the splicer team to repair the main line or the box on the pole behind 314 23rd St.Anyone affected? We are...wondered what was up.
While it should be repaired today, he did say the box is OVERLOADED. Seems when new development goes in, no one (i.e. the developers) seem to think about how int will impact the existing infrastructure. Rather than contacting Verizon, Time Warner, etc., their GCs just overload the system. My 2 cents.
Minor headache, but still affects all of the communities quality of life.

Just updated from the newsgroups:
Just off the phone with Verizon. Seems out outage (23rd St/22nd St btwn 6th/7th Aves) has been escalated to a "major outage."
It is scheduled to be fixed by Saturday, 5/25, by 8:00PM. Or sooner...
Now, if you call Verizon's repair line, you can request your land line be fwd to another phone number or cell phone number. You also need to request a refund for the outage from yesterday morning 4/23/09. -
And more (pissed off  ):
Evening,
Just off the phone with Verizon. Since it past 8PM on Saturday, the repair deadline, and we still have no service, I thought a call was due.
Seems out status has be "UPDATED" to Monday, 4/27/09, at 8PM.
Obviously I (and I assume others) are loosing patience at the fact we have had no land line service for 3 days and now it is going to be 5 days.
While I was assured I would be compensated for the days of outage, I would not be compensated for the cell phone minutes being burned up (also Verizon) as they have fwd both our land line numbers to my cell. Errrrh!
I'll be taking this up with a supervisor when this is over, but I assume others are inconvenienced as we are...perhaps MANY calls to Verizon would help. Take 5 mins if you can (assuming you land line is out) at 800-275-2355.
I would like to hope for the best, but will settle for the norm. -
Latest update (not happy):

Seems out status has be "UPDATED" to Wednesday, 4/27/09, at 8PM.
All of us are loosing loosing patience at the fact we have had no land line service for 5 days and now it is going to be 7 days.

We'll be going to the press...if my minutes do not run out! -
Word on the street was it was the developer at 7th Ave and 23rd St. who cut the cable (I hope by accident!) to the main box.
Ah, new development!
Howdy, Stranger!
