  • They actually don't serve brunch anywhere in Park Slope. No places open on Sunday mornings at all. Just doesn't work with stroller moms and dog owners. Sorry!

OK.....not true at all. Where do I usually wind up at for brunch.....Bogota (now open on Saturdays for brunch as well), Miracle Grill, Sette (shockingly better for brunch than dinner....really good deal), Bussaco, the sit-down side of La Taqueria is underrated in this regard, Beast, Al Di La's now open for lunch.....i find Alchemy's brunch food good, but service awful.....I wish Blue Ribbon went back to serving brunch.....I find Stone Park overrated and overdone for brunch.....I find the PS French places boring.

    Hope that helps.
  • Miriam has a good brunch.
  • I love love love Applewood, but find their brunch crowded w/bad service and only good but not stellar brunch food.

I will second Sette for brunch. Cafe Steinhof. Bar Toto.
  • There are a ton of places for a good brunch and I am sure tons of threads on it too.

my current brunch favorite place is Miracle Grill. If you are looking for a brunch where drinks are actually included, then that is a bit harder to find.

though Sette is a good deal (they include booze and an appy in thier higher than average price), we did not care for their brunch food,
  • A friend really likes Scotaditto or some such spelling for brunch because it is really good eggs and they give goblets of champagne included in the price. I like Sette because the eggs are fine and if you sit at the bar especially the drinks are strong and yummy and plentiful. Whatever you do, don't go to Alto Voce. Horrible eggs. In this weather I would be inclined to try anything with a patio!
  • al di la is the best, if you can get a table.
  • 200 5th has a very good brunch, and you can get unlimited Champagne if you want too.
  • ^^But, you pay for the champagne, it is not included in the price the way it was years ago, right?.
  • Which part of the Slope are you targeting?

Bar Toto has tasty food and is affordable. Went to Barrio a couple of weekends ago and had a nice brunch on the patio.
  • thanks for all this -- this is great. i'm looking at stuff a little closer to south park slope for this trip, but am up for exploring others later...
  • Don't know how far south you want, but Tots is on 6th and 11th. Little D is supposed to have good brunch and they are on 7th and 14thish, or how about Kitchen Bar if they haven't closed yet on 6th and 20th?

4 of us actually were all happy with our brunch meals when we went to Alto Voce a few months back. It's a pretty restaurant and the waitstaff let us sit for hours and never made us feel rushed. Brunch was $14.95 and included unlimited mimosas (if I remember correctly). I would recommend it.
  • Burrito Bar on Flatbush can be good for a group, esp once the outside is open. Tasty smoothies for those who don't want booze but want to join in with a drink. Plus, if you have kids they give them balloons.

I hope I am remembering correctly, but we were going to go somewhere else and everything was packed so we went to Alto Voce and while it is super pretty with the windows and the stairway (they told us it was a wine cellar downstairs but wouldn't let us check), and it was unlimited mimosas or just plain champagne, when we got our eggs benedict or whatever, they weren't cooked-- meaning the whites were still clear, there wasn't enough hollandaise, and the potatoes were one tablespoon of just cooked potatoes. But they were nice. One girl got pasta and liked it. Another got pankcakes and liked his. So maybe it's just the eggs.

Gah. This place is awful. The brunch sat like a lead weight in my stomach for two days.
  • 12th Street Bar (8th Ave/12th St) is one of our favorite standbys...
  • Rosewater (on Union) -- it's a little pricey, but super delicious.

And you can't go wrong with Daisy's if you want diner food.

so true! I remember going to 200 5th with my older sister and her husband just after (like a few weeks) they started charging for champagne. I was barely legal then, but I remember them giving us the old unlimited deal because they knew we were locals. That was also before 200 got dirtier and became complete sports bar.
  • It's not complete sports bar. I like the restaurant part sometimes. The bar is simply horrible though, agreed.
  • 12th street bar and grill is definitely a good option.

if you wanted to venture north, flatbush farm is pretty good and rosewater and miriam are both very good as well.

james (in prospect heights) is absolutely phenomenal, but they only do brunch on sundays.

i can't believe how many people on here like sette....i think that place is HORRIBLE!!
  • Sette's actually pretty decent for brunch. Tremendous deal. I agree that they're lackluster otherwise, but they've got the Sunday brunch business pretty down pat.

The recommendations I can't believe I'm seeing are Playa and Burrito Bar. My god.....can't think of two worse restaurants to recommend for any meal of the day.

Only one side is a sports bar, the other side is still a restaurant. I don't find it dirty at all, at least not the restaurant part, was just there 2 weeks ago. have never been to the bar part.

Am I the only one who thinks even though Sette gives you a lot of food and booze for the price the food is bland and tasteless? i think people are just taken in by the quantity and the drinks and not realizing how boring the food is.
  • I think this poster was referring to pre-11 A.M. options in PS. It's true, there are few, aside from standard diner fare. Someone could make a mint serving a real "schmancy" brunch starting at 9 for early risers (babies & dogs). I think Dizzy's does, but that's about it.

I've gotta agree with you on Burrito bar. It is completely craptastic. ....that people actually cross Flatbush to eat there amazes me.

(it is my sincere hope that no one from PH eats there, and that I can continue the fantasy of it having only PS customers. ....please do not ruin my Friday by telling me otherwise).

When you referred to Kitchen Bar, did you mean that you expect it to go out of business, or it really is?
  • J0518 wrote: The recommendations I can't believe I'm seeing are Playa and Burrito Bar. My god.....can't think of two worse restaurants to recommend for any meal of the day.
Really? I can't comment on Burrito Bar, but I've been to Playa for brunch a couple times. The Playa Sliders (they're like mini crab/lobster rolls) are really good, as is the Cuban sandwich. And they have $4 all you can drink sangria... All you can drink. Four dollars. That's kind of awesome.
  • The Playa $4 sangria deal is amazing.

Kitchen Bar has been for sale for a while now. No takers in this economy, so it will be around for a while hopefully.

One note on 200 fifth. The bar area tends to overflow into the nicer dining area and it gets loud. All the large TV's still face the dining area so you really can't avoid the sports-bar factor. IMHO. What I meant by dirty really applies to the seating at the bar and the side to the right. The seats are sticky and smelly and the bar is just as gross. I know a lot of people like the place, but I went back twice last year and don't plan on returning for a while. They are now advertising a Soul Food dinner, that might lure me.
  • I have Never Been in thebar and when we eat in the restaurant we never eat in the 'lower' area near the bar, so, never have run off from the bar. Just sit in the upper area of the restaurant and you will be fine.
  • 200 5th is constantly tweaking their brunch menu, and it has a lot of lighter options than it used to, and certainly more options that Sette, Sotto Voce, or Scottadito (which are just Italian restaurants parading as cheap brunch spots, and have very meager/ half-assed brunch menus). Also 200 5th gives you a liter carafe of champagne and aren't as stingy about refilling it as the other places, which only serve you one glass at a time and charge you the same. I only sit on the restaurant side when I go, the sports bar side has become some sort of weird TV-pod zone.

And the Playa brunch menu is great! And $4 unlimited sangria. C'mon.

If that's what you think good latin food is, then good luck to you. I wouldn't feed their food to my dog, and I don't even like dogs.
