Please help us find Charlie cat (bw tuxedo; lost 2/10)

Our cat Charlie is still missing! We are heartbroken and have no idea what could have happened to him. He is short-haired black & white tuxedo, was wearing a red collar with a bell and our phone number written on it. He went missing on February 10 (the Friday before the blizzard) early in the morning.

We used to let him out in the backyards on the block between Flatbush/Vanderbilt and Park Place/Sterling. He had gone outside for almost a year and he usually would go out for a couple of hours and then return.

There is no way out of the backyards into the street. So, he couldn't have been hit by a car or snuck into someone's car and been driven away. And the backyards are so small! There aren't really any dangerous places in the backyards as far as we know. We talked to most of our neighbors who have backyards and many knew him or had seen him before. But no one has seen him since Feb. 10.

We let him out at 4:30 in the morning and he usually would have returned by 7, so something must have happened to him during that time.

He is microchipped and registered, so we would know if he got into any shelter. (But we still check regularly with NYCACC). We have not had any leads so far from flyers or posts.

We cannot imagine someone would want to keep him--he is not purebred and looks like an alleycat. And he had his collar with our phone number.

If you have any ideas as to where or what we should do to look for him or what could have happened to him please email or call us. We really miss him.

Thank you very much!

Apologies, the original link didn't seem to work from the forum site. Here's the corrected one.

    Many thanks in advance.
  • So sorry to hear about your missing kitty. We lost our cat, Jimmy, on Underhill last summer. We still miss him terribly. I do hope Charlie returns to you safe and sound and soon!
  • This seems to be a tough neighborhood for tuxedo cats...

.. scroll down to Tues Nov 8, that Guest post was me.

Good luck finding him, or at least, finding out what happened.

i'm so sorry your cat is missing. he is very sweet!
is there absolutely no way that there is an exit out of the backyards? i'm sure you canvassed the area but just in case.
are you able to prevail on your neighbors and ask to look in their backyards...? unless he got caught somewhere, or someone is looking after him, it's very perplexing.
    good luck!! i totally understand...
  • Many thanks to everyone for the kind wishes.

We have been "patrolling" the area within a mile radius, but haven't really seen many cats at all (possibly due to the colder weather).

So far, we have not had any luck finding Charlie or solving the mystery of his disappearance. But we are still hoping and trying not to give up.
  • Subject: Posting Recommendation

Don't forget to post Charlie missing on the following sites:

    National Lost Pet Hotline, 1-900-535-1515
    Animal Care & Control
    www.muffins.org
    Mayor's Animal Alliance
local vets who often keep lost pet binders
    pets911.com
    tabbytracker.com
    missingpets.com
    petfinder.com
newyork.craigslist.org (both in the Pets and Lost+Found sections)

I feed several feral cat colonies in the area and will let you know if I see a tuxdeo cat. Keep posting flyers EVERYWHERE. Someone probably has them in their home - if he ended up at a shelter or any vet clinic they would scan him before doing anything else. Be sure to offer a reward on the flyers. I have seen cats reunited with their owners after many, many weeks - just don't give up!
  • Subject: Update on Charlie

We have received a good lead that Charlie was seen in backyards on Park Place between Vanderbilt and Underhill a week after the blizzard. Unfortunately, it was already a while ago. But we are still looking for him! If you see a black and white tuxedo cat in the area, please call us ANY TIME.

Everyone has been very helpful and sympathetic! Our heartfelt thanks to all!
