Does anyone know of a good Greek food restaurant in Park Slope? I have been having jonesing for some tzatziki lately.

  • If you don't mind going a little further than PS, you should consider Teddy's on Washington.
  • I know a great place in Bay Ridge, but none in Park Slope.
  • Helios on 6th near Flatbush is OK... and they do have tzatziki.

  • Athena on the corner of 14th and 6th recently opened and seems pretty decent. Been there only once but liked it enough that I want to go back and find out more.

    x3!

I think Helios is okay, just OK (but this comes from someone who moved here from Astoria....). Teddy's is great, and better still, the back patio in the summer is terrific!

    If I remember, it's a BYOB?

Bay Ridge is your source, though, for Greek food in Brooklyn. It's almost as good as what you'll find in Astoria ;-).
  • Right, Bay Ridge is the place to go, we went to an excellent Greek restaurant in Astoria and they have a sister restaurant in Bay ridge:

  • Subject: Greek to me

Bay Ridge - the SOURCE of all things Greek.

If you really can't haul up to Bay Ridge, get a pint of whole milk plain yogurt, 3-4 cloves of garlic (fine chop), 1 medium peeled and de-seeded cucumber (actually only use half a cucumber also fine chopped), 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar, and 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil - a little of bit of dill mix it all together and BAM! - fresh Tsatsiki!
  • i heard athena at 6th and 14th was really good...
  • Domino! Thank you so much!

Will check out Athena this weekend. Thanks all!

Teddy's food is great. If you're a carnivore I HIGHLY recommend the gyro.
  • I actually think Helios has excellent tzatziki. They're not the greatest option for greek food in general (and watch it when you order chicken), but they do a mean tzatiki.

They also now have a green chile cheeseburger which, while not Greek, is an outside-NYC specialty not many places in the city can claim. It's yummy.
  • anyone try that place that's on 6th ave around 15th st?

    also, tremendous haloumi. tremendous.
  • I went to Athenas recently as well and meant to post about it, because some folks had problems with that other poster who seemed to be bananas about it; people thought she was a shill - my feeling, after eating there, was that she was right. I had the best fish - it was in this amazing lemon/butter/olive oil sauce, and I just kept swooning over it. I can't wait to go back! The owner was really attentive and great. The grape leaves are fantastic, as are the hummus and eggplant - they do the standards very well, and their specials are extremely tasty.

  • Go to Stamatis in Astoria, Queens.
  • glad to hear the review of Athenas...do they have outdoor seating?

Agreed. I have been to both locations and I was stumped for the name yesterday.
  • I love that place! the best Greek food ever! And, if you go to the one in Astoria, it's cute since it is right by Astoria park. But, it doesn't seem like anyone is interested in venturing outside of Park Slope for food, LOL

They do have a few tables outside.

For those of you who know about the Greek scene in Bay Ridge - can you recommend somewhere to go to buy feta? I was in Astoria a few weeks back and bought some feta from one of those stores where they have like 6 different kinds of it at a deli counter with a guy there to carve you up a hunk (and serve generous samples, yum!). I chose a softer/milder version of it and loved it. But I did not love the hour spent on the R train getting there...
  • It's not any closer, but there are a couple of gourmet food stores in Brighton Beach that sell all kinds of feta from the counter.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the place some are mentioning, Athena.
