part time room mate

I've got a small room in my 3br apt that I need to rent but I really don't want to live with another person.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with renting a place out to someone who only lives there part time?

I'm not even sure what/where to look on craigslist for this.

I tried to find this situation a few years ago- looked into airline pilots/stewardesses as they're almost never around and will actually pay to use your place as a "crash" pad. Problem with that is, we're just too far from the airports for their convenience (they like to be 5-10 minutes away from the airports)....

So, anyway- I ended up with a few freelance cameramen- they worked on all types of shows and traveled a lot. They never cooked (they eat at craft services), they slept at odd hours. During their down time, they mostly kept to themselves and slept. Or traveled, visiting friends/family.

Think about someone who has to travel a lot due to their job....

I actually do this... it's a bit odd to be honest.

I like the fact that I'm living in a place that I couldn't have otherwise afforded, and we have "rules" about the frequency and so on. But it's just weird when the roommate shows up. It's regular enough that you would think I was used to it, but nope... it just sort of feels a bit awkward.

Oh well.
