Wow mamacita.... now that's a topic.
Let's be careful about making generalities. While I agree that an English accent moistens my rolls on occasion I can't deny that good ole american down home, uh, cooking... or that spicy latin flavour... or those exotic taste from the Far East for that matter.. -
LOL! Eccles, is it worse then what goes in mexican chorizo? Good point though!
-
i have a feeling black horse is going to suck. it will prolly be just like black sheep, which i dont really like. on the other hand , i hope high dive will be cool, but i have my doubts. hopefully its nothing like light house. i know that bar reis sucks, so does great lakes, and flipsters is pretty cool, late night.
-
bar reis does suck. I wish it didnt suck, because I live 5 minutes from it....but it continues to suck and the female bartenders continue to be bitchy. I'll hoof it to brookvin, the gate or the hoff for my boozin.
-
BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I smell the blood of an Englishman!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!
-
You know what else sucks? Some posters on this board... cough.. yes, you ______.
Oh, I didn't realize that is was ok to trash an actual bar, owned by people who were trying to make actual livings... but when you try to talk about some man/woman who hides behind an avatar and a login all bets are off..
Well, fuck that.. You suck Captin Kirk. -
so, when is this adventure?
-
for those who haven't seen it on the prospect heights board (lts...you might want to close your eyes) mooney's pub has now become sharlene's (same people from commonwealth) and they had their grand opening on thursday. i heard it's a really nice place.

are you sure you just don't want people to drink in PH as opposed to PS? -
drinking should happen everywhere...ps, ph and everywhere in between! ;-)
-
I for one look forward to getting drunk and eating Yorkshire puddings.
Bring it the fuck on! -

More blood sausage! YUM -
What I want to open in Park Slope, in priority order:
1) Restaurant
2) Bar
3) Food/beer stores
4) Porn shop
5) Some kind of cool gift or gadget shop
Banks and cell phone stores don't make the list unfortunately. -
Hello There,
Just so you do not think that a slew of bars is new to Park Slope, be advised that in the 40's 50's there was at least one bar on 5th Ave between streets as well as on the corners. Some of course had there every day lushes while others were mostly weekend hangouts. I frequented Murphy's bar (Long Gone) between 13th & 14th street on fifth ave. 11th and fifth was Loftus, 13th & 5th was Goldens, 14th & 5th and 15th & 5th had bars whose names escape me. Between 8th & 9th street there were so many bars I could not count them all! Plenty of people who frequented these bars turned out to be pretty good and successful people. I am sure a few ended up in the dumpster but that is life. As long as a bar makes money for the owner and provides jobs for bartenders & waitresses it is a hard thing to knock! Old Goat

belzjm wrote: you can post about whatever you like, i just don't think it's really all that helpful to come onto a thread where people are excited about a new bar opening, and you are the only person here who seems to want to sh*t on it.
you might reconsider a stop into your local watering hole to see what it is people do in bars to make them enjoyable. definitely more fun it would seem than talking smack on the computer about a new business you are never going to patronize.
park slope has far from "tons" of bars. most people i know in the neighborhood say we need more, and i happen to agree.
it's interesting that the places you like (a certain less than mediocre italian restaurant which looked like it belonged in the magic kingdom in disneyworld) which went out of business while getfresh is thriving and new bars are opening. perhaps your finger is not on the pulse of what businesses seem to be doing well in modern day ps.
comment away though. i like your posts.
boy, what got into your kniockers tonight! How i am sh**ting on a new business? oh, excuse me for not falling over myself just because it is a place you like! Please forgive me! And, yes, of course, I must be sooo out of touch just because one place that I liked a lot is out of business (interesting how you say mediocre, yet, you had never even been in there, I guess it is ok for you to talk smack about businesses you had never patronized though) and one place you like a lot is doing well, that MUST mean I have no clue or don't have my finger on the pulse of the community.
yes, yes, very true. Because, obviously making a comment that I am not overjoyed that yet another bar is opening up on 5th Avenue, where, excuse me, there are tons of bars, must mean I am a simpleton with absolutely no taste whatsoever. So, true belz, so true, you have me pinpointed well. I guess the only cure for having a differing opinion than yours is to go out to my local watering hole and have drinks, thanks for putting me straight!
Oh, and thanks for the okay for me to proceed to continue to talk here, because honestly dear belz, that means the world to me! -
This is great news! I'm moving right near there in a week or so.
I hope the English theme doesn't dominate the beer selection too much, though. -
Go for the porn shop. They always add a sense of wonder to a neighborhood.

LOL! -
i did try primmo atto and it wasn't good. neither the food nor the service were even what i'd consider mediocre. apparently it wasn't just me.
and yes...so far you are the only person on this thread who doesn't seem happy about this new bar opening.
yet another reason why i asked the reason for the multitude of comments on the issue.
let's just leave it. we don't see eye to eye and that's just fine. differences of opinion are what make the world go round. -
I am so excited about this bar!! This is definitely within stumbling distance and I'm in heaven if they have London Pride!!!

Old Goat - I really enjoy your posts! how much was a pint in those days? -

This new bar with its english theme would surely succeed if it was in center or north slope. being in south slope might be a little hard as the british population is not found there. especially since they are way way south from center pk slope.
definitely not a place to walk to but i might drive there once to just check it out. -

yeah, I am probably the oldest person (other than Old Goat) commenting on this thread also, that might be the difference too, I was much more interested in bars when I was younger and single. Enjoy!

Hi Flexichick & Anastasia,
We did not have pints but plain old beer glasses. Probably held 10-12oz. Get ready for this. When a glass of beer went from 5 cents to 10 cents there was an uproar. People predicted the bars would go out of nusiness! Needless to say that did not happen. One thing the bar owners did that made things a little less painful was buy you back a drink (hard liquor or beer) after the 3rd or 4th drink. I remember going into a bar on 14th st in Manhatten near where I worked. I put a $10 bill on the bar. It was a beer only bar. No Liquor. The bartender said "I hope you are not going to spend that all here!!!

off topic but Sun City Center is great.
my grandparents lived there in the 80's -
Geez belzjm, it's makes for an intelligent thread having posts with differing opinions, ya know, it gets people thinking. How many posts do you need fawning over bars?
As for the snide Primo Alto comments, the majority of people on this forum liked the place and you only commented on the "disneyland" decor and not the food. I guess it's ok to sh*t on a thread if you don't like it.
As for the pulse of PS, I'd wager a bet the majority of people who frequent bars have no kids, hardly the pulse of stroller infested PS.
Old Goat in FL I too enjoy your posts. -
eggcream:
sorry to have offended you.
btw, here are the stats for park slope in terms of the "stroller infested ps" you speak of. looks to me as though there are more of us without children than those with kids in the neighborhood, but who cares about facts...right?

care to take back your comment about who has the pulse on what? -
Oy, people, calm down. Now the question is, where are all these .30/.20 households? where are all these midgets and dwarfs hiding?!?
Drunken Rival! Do you have some kinky film production going on at your place!!
