Whynot doesn't even have a cell phone at all, and Mrs. C and I have old school cell phones.
No pics for you! -

Ok, here's what happened:
I was at the bus stop at Eastern Parkway and Bedford Avenue at 11:30 (I was actually there at 10:30 but that's another story). I looked for a group of goodlooking fisherpeople and didn't see any. So I got on the bus at 11:36 and went to Sheepshead Bay and I figured I'd go to the ship and meet up. At which point I realized I had never bothered to learn the name of the boat.
so I went down to the marina figuring I'd look for a group of good looking fisherpeople. Again, no luck. So I looked for the boat that leaves at 1:00 (which turned out to be the Sea Queen VII) and waited at the end of the pier for a group of goodlooking fisherpeople. The time was 12:35.
One of what WhyNot calls the staff people asked me if I was fishing with them today and I said I was waiting for somebody and he suggested I come check the boat to see if they were already on. It was at this point that I had to explain to him that I didn't actually know the group.
Another staff person said they were expecting two groups. The "small" group had already arrived but the "bigger" one had not. So while the first guy went up to someone in the "small" group to see if I was with them I stood on the pier yelling "Anyone from Brooklynian?". Two clowns on the boat decided I was asking if anyone was from Brooklyn.
So I waited and a group of goodlooking fisherpeople never appeared so I went home.
Hope your day went better. -
Aww lame, sorry stewart.
We need to start a rule that everyone exchange numbers before these events. If you start the event you PM people your number or whom ever is the designated cell phone carrier. I guess we'll wait and see how the rest of the crew made out. -
I'm not blaming anyone (well, maybe myself, a little).
Just an interesting anecdote. -
Don't worry, I will totally blame whynot for you. What a rude nastything to do. He is such a meanie.

"....figuring I'd look for a group of good looking fisherpeople..."
THIS is where your plan went to shit. -

Hey, Mrs. C is good looking at least!
THIS is where your plan went to shit.
Sorry we missed you, stewart!
Next time, we definitely need to exchange numbers. We've gotten lax about this since so many of us know each other at this point. Hopefully this won't turn you off of future Brooklynian events. -
SO??? how did it go?? Catch any fish? Anyone puke?

We all caught fish, but my bass was the only one we could keep. Bass had to be over 12 inches and fluke over 23 inches to be kept, and we had to throw back 2 fluke and one sea robin (a junk fish).
No one threw up, but we pre-medicated with Zofran ODT (ondansetron oral dissolving tabs). There was no way anyone was going to puke after that. -

ah, I take it back. I didn't realize Mrs. C. was going to be there. -
Mummm bass, my Dad used to go bass fishing. They are tasty!
-
It wouldn't have made a difference. I'm the last person in America who doesn't have a cell phone.
I considered standing on the dock yelling "Whynot!!" "Carnivore!!"Carnivore wrote: [quote=Flexichick]"....figuring I'd look for a group of good looking fisherpeople..."

that might have worked. ..but the cell phone would have been a better plan. I also do not have a cell phone, so we could have pulled this off by knowing for absolute certain that you were coming (we would have waited at the bus stop for you, and told you actually we are the only ones that consider us good looking).
...so sorry you missed us. We got on the bus at around 11:30 just south of EP on Bedford, and arrived at the boat around 12:45.
Here's a Harpers Index (pictures to follow):
Number of fish caught by C, mrs C, and why: 4
Number of said fish that were of legal size: 1
Estimated number of days that my hands will smell like fish bait: 3
Cost of boat ride, rod and bait: $40.
Approximate number of people on boat: 60
Approximate number of people that could have fished on said boat without having their lines tangled every 3 minutes: 30
Number of men over 60 on boat who may not have been literate: 10
Number of men that over 60 that seemed to know the captain: 6
Time it takes to get to Sheepshead Bay via the B49: 1 hr
Time it takes to get back on the Q train: 30 min
Last time Whynot was in Sheepshead bay: n/a
Last time Carnie was in Sheepshead bay: Adolescence.
Number of people that puked to our knowledge: 0
(the seas were calm)
Advice to those considering such an adventure:
Spend a little more money, say $70, and take a fishing boat that has less people on it.
A good time was had nonetheless, and I'll likely upload the photos on Monday (Mrs. Why handles such things traditionally and is away this weekend). Not a lot of people seemed to be interested in fishing, but there seems to be a lot of booze cruises that leave from the location. -
I guess no fish tacos at the picnic tomorrow? (seriously, that would have been awesome)

---Beavis would make a comment here---
P.S. it is time to unsticky and unglobal -
I rode by the docks on my bike...I was hoping to see the boat coming back in with a giant shark strapped to the side...possibly straddled by whynot. Alas I was disappointed. Maybe I should have hung around for Carnie's 12" bass.
