Basics: Grocery, Car Services, Housewares

Hey guys. New to the neighborhood and trying to figure out the basics. I did some searches online, but was wondering if there are any list consensus choices.

First on the list is a good car service near for the area around Franklin & Dean. I've been living in Boerum Hill for 5 years and always used Arecibo or Eastern.

I've explored Franklin and haven't seen too much in the ways of fresh produce. Any suggestions?

Lastly, if I'm looking for housewares, is there a solid hard/houseware store nearby?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

  • From Dean and Franklin you can walk to Target at the Atlantic Center. Also Pintchik Hardware on Flatbush and Bergen is good for houseware stuff and not too far. There is a 99 cent store on Franklin near Lincoln as well. Groceries are limited. Green market on Saturdays at GAP is best way to go. Welcome...
  • There's a produce store on Franklin that's open late if you're coming back from the Franklin 2345 station.
  • Fisher's on Franklin Ave at Lincoln and Nam's Organic on Franklin Ave at St Johns both have good selection for groceries I think. I recommend the farmer's market at grand army plaza on saturday mornings for fresher produce.

i like the hardware store on washington ave at st. johns or pinchik on flatbush and bergen. pathmark for food and target for stuff as well at the atlantic terminal.

Please don't go to hardware store on Washington. It is run in a very questionable manner. I posted about the owner previously. Since my personal boycott Ive survived with the hardware store on Franklin and Bergen and Pintchiks just fine.
  • oh i had no idea. i have only been twice. once when i needed a new smoke alarm because my landlord kept saying "i'll get to it" and the other when i was hanging a cooking-pot ceiling rack and we needed something strong enough to hold the 150 pounds from the ceiling which had no studs. the guys at the store helped me get what i needed and explained how to install it so i wouldn't pull out the ceiling. i'll have to look back for your post. thanks.
  • It's been a few years since I lived there, but I always liked the produce at Western Beef down on Empire. It was worth the walk to take the cart down there and stock the cupboard since it's a good sized grocery store. Don't go when you're in a rush, though. This store takes patience.
