Laws about couples sharing apartments?
I am looking to move to Brooklyn near Brooklyn College with my boyfriend, and I'm concerned that there will be landlords who will give us a hard time about it i.e. will try to raise the rent for two of us staying there or just flat out won't want us there. What should I know about our rights and landlord's rights??

I don't think any landlord will care if you are renting a place as a couple vs. being single.

Actually the lease covers this issue. The normal wear and tear on an apartment, and use of heat and hot water (if provided by landord) are factors in how many people rent the apartment. As such, a single person may get a cheaper rent.
Another factor is the type of building. An owner occupied
brownstone vs. a large apartment building. -
Yes the lease will state how many can rent the apartment. That said, even in a studio or 1 bedroom I've generally seen that it's listed as "Single person or a couple" Landlords see a couple as one unit so you'll be sharing the room. So I see no problem.
Why are you so worried, have you had problems before? Where are you moving from? -
i read sugar mama for some reason
as the name lol.
It doesn't matter to landlords as long you you guys pay bills or super activities from being a couple. -
I have had problems before in Boston, where we're all set to rent/sublet and then the landlord decides against us staying. Thanks for all the input!
Now for another question (that I may re-post later):
When is the best time to let a potential landlord/person who is leasing know that we are a couple? I have been advised not to scare them away with that information (for the above reasons), but IMO it will obviously have to come out and I feel that the earlier all the cards are on the table, the better. I also don't want to waste time with apartments that won't take us. Any thoughts? -

What century are you living in, kid? You could be a tri-sexual transvestite manage a trois love fest and freely rent in this town.

If I'm ever a landlord, I'm going to rent to Raw's tenants ...sounds interesting -
I cant see how withholding information about your situation could in any way benefit you.
IMHO , the only possible result other then the LL simply not giving a shit,
is that you create a reason for the LL to mistrust you.
