A Nice Place For Music — Brooklynian

A Nice Place For Music

I'm trying to find a nice place for live music in the slope.
Are there any place that have live music, within walking distance from the R train and that doesn't charge a ridiculous cover?

  • Not sure of your tastes, but the Bell House has some variety in their calendar.

  • Bar 4 on 7th Avenue has live music, but unfortunately even though it is a bar, they let toddlers in at night. So if you boogie with beer you must beware of bumping babies.

If a bar lets babies in, they should let teens in too! You can't just let all ages in to bars EXCEPT people between the ages of 12 and 21.
  • I think Barbes is usually just a (strongly) suggested donation and not strict cover.

And the Red Horse Cafe has free live music some nights - http://redhorsecafe.ning.com/
  • Perch... try this Friday nite.. amazing bass/guitar/singer song writter I know is playing there. Great place for aacustic music tha is consistently high quality.
  • I was at Alta Voce (5th ave btw 2nd & 3rd) Last night and they have free jazz on Wednesdays and piano on Fridays and Saturdays. they have great food and it's not expensive. They have a 20 bottle of pinot grigio that we took advantage of.

  • I'd say Union Hall is your best bet -- they get good bands and the cover is usually around $10: http://www.unionhallny.com/calendar.php
  • Aji usually has music on the weekends.

    Ellis does bluegrass on Wednesdays.

I THINK Buttermilk will have their monthly country jam jam tonight!

I agree, John Montagna is playing tonight at Perch from 9-11. He's the bass player for the Alan Parsons Project, and a great songwriter as well.

This is the place to be in PS tonight.
  • Buttermilk's hootenanny WAS last night and yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw it was fun!!!!!! It was the bartender's birthday so shots and make out sessions abounded. Oh and the music was awesome.
