SAVE YOUR COMMUNITY BOARD RALLY 06.09.09 — Brooklynian

SAVE YOUR COMMUNITY BOARD RALLY 06.09.09

Just got this from our local newsgroups:
From Brooklyn Community Board 7:

Community Boards are currently slated to have their budgets cut by $35,000, which would lessen your community's voice in neighborhood planning matters.

Please join Borough Presidents Stringer, Diaz, Markowitz, Marshal and Molinaro along with the City's 59 Community Boards & Community Advocates at a rally at the steps of City Hall on Tuesday, June 09, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. , to urge the City Council to fully restore community board funding for the coming fiscal year.

Please contact the community board office at 718-854-0003 to inform us if you will be attending the rally.

COMMUNITY BOARDS ARE THE VOICE OF THE COMMUNITY!!

My POV:

Personally I cannot agree more. Both as an community activist and now a CB7 Board member, CB's are the baseline for communities and individuals to interface with City agencies. Further budget cuts by the administration, instead of needed budget increases, will cripple the essential work done by the Board's staff. While it takes a full Board of unpaid/volunteer appointees to do the Board's official business, it is the paid staff (underpaid) that does the day to day work of the Board for members and YOU.

Please take time to write a letter to your local City Council member asking them to say NO to any budget cuts to any of the 59 Community Boards!

See you there on Tuesday.
