Private Sanitation Pickup — Brooklynian

Private Sanitation Pickup

Does anyone have any info or know where I can find some regarding private sanitation pickup. A business across the street from our apt. has their trash picked up at ungodly hours and I wanted to arm myself w/proper info/regulations before contacting them.

  • I think most businesses that have private pick-up seem to have it in the wee hours. The abundance of it makes me think there must be no law against it.
  • Private carters usually schedule pickups for 9pm-3am hours. They have to pick up after businesses are closed, and before sanitation is out ticketing in the morning hours. Its a pain in the neck if you live in a commercial area, but its not illegal. If the business is a restaurant or bar that's open late, you probably won't be able to get them to agree to an earlier pickup since they won't want to be hauling trash out while customers are present. other types of businesses may have more flexibility. It also may be that the carter can't get to the business any earlier. Talk to the owners, but be aware that there may be little that they can/are willing to do.
  • You moved next to a business and are now complaining about routine business noise? Seriously? That's like moving next to an airport and bitching about all the planes overhead. Welcome to New York, princess.
  • You should definitely talk to the owner of the business. I used to work in a small. We had no idea our carter was causing a problem to our neighbors. Once we found out I made one call and things changed.

I don't think the private sanitation company will respond to you.
  • I work for a small business that has one of those private pick-ups...we opted for that to make sure our trash gets picked up every day, at the same time.
In practice - that never happens.
They come anytime between 6pm and 9am the next morning. Sometimes they
don't come and we get the ticket (plus we have to deal with the garbage)...
No matter how many calls I make and how many times they promise me it won't happen again it happens... They don't give a damn for my ticket and trouble with the neighbors. It's some kind of garbage mafia...
So yeah, I guess you could talk with your neighbor business but sometimes it's really not their fault...
Good thing we don't have summer this year I guess...
