THE ST GEORGE TOWER ORAL HISTORY EXPERIMENT is online
Who is the story teller in your family? The OLDEST story teller? If they grew up in Brooklyn, they have a great story about the St George Hotel back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Count on it.
Who is the family photographer? Yeah, the OLDEST one! They have photos from a very important family event that took place at the St George Hotel. There's a story there too.
A new website has been launched (2 years) to collect the oral histories and photos/clippings that tell the story of this famous New York institution. Since being written up in the Sunday Times last April, that world wide reach has caused this thing to take off. People everywhere trace their family's history to Brooklyn!!!
Go here: www.stgeorgetower.2ya.com
Grab your laptop and go visit your Grandma out at Coney! Or your Great Uncle in Bensonhurst! Or your favorite elderly neighbor next door--the great story teller--the one that'll talk your ear off! And record their thoughts and pilfer their photo albums for all of us to enjoy. And we'll share with them too!
Tell them you'll put their stories on the internet as an important history archive! Tell them you'll help them make sure their loved ones who have passed will be remembered forever too.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Check it out. We already have a large collection of letters, postcards, photos, memorabilia, and some "secret stories" that folks have never told before (told anonymously, naturally <wink>)
Hope to see you there soon.
