Where do you donate your stuff?

I have some women's clothing and miscellaneous house and child items that I want to give away. I usually try to catch a ride to a Goodwill, but that's not always possible. I was hoping to find more places that take donations--churches, shelters, whatever you know of.

I am looking for places in Bed Stuy, preferably near the Bedford Nostrand stop so I can drop it off in a cart. But I would love to hear about any place you all suggest.

United Veterans Beacon House picks up clothing, shoes and small toys. Website is uvbh.com. The phone number for pick up is 718-628-6469 or 718-386-5782.

Typically I give to the Salvation Army on Atlantic Avenue near Nevins. However, at this time, since donations are being taken for those residents who lost their homes on Myrtle Avenue, why don't you donate there?

There's also a salvation army just off Classon on that funny street where Arthur lives, you know the street that the broken angel is on....

And Concord Baptist Church has a clothing store where locals can go in and select donated items for free. Not sure what day they take donations, but the store is on the corner of Madison and Marcy. Signage outside with donation details

There's a goodwill on Fulton near Nostrand and a Salvation Army on Flatbush near Bergen.

I called about this organization because I love these exchanges. Unfortunately, it's temporarily closed because the ceiling caved in. That's terrible. They do such an amazing service. I hope they find a way to repair it.

I missed the event. But I called and spoke to a lovely hostess who is going to call me back and give me further donation information. It's really wonderful Chez Lola has gotten involved.

This is information on their site now about the plan to help:

If you have services to provide, clothes to spare, furniture that is collecting dust, come on by to Chez Lola on Sunday [this has passed so I suggest calling if you want or wait and I'll pass along the info I find] and let us know. Obviously we cannot store clothes or furniture, but we can take down your contact info and approximate location and help coordinate.

Please make checks/money orders out to Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project. Specify “491 & 493 Myrtle emergency fund” in the memo field. MARP has offered to temporarily hold your donations until they can be disbursed to the affected tenants.

If you get more info, please post it! I also missed the event and have a few bags of clothes I'd like to donate. I emailed Team Tish but received no response (which is a little disheartening).

also, please remember that even if things aren't in good enough condition to donate to homeless shelters/thrift stores PLEASE DONATE TOWELS, BLANKETS AND RUGS TO YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER... i think people forget about these places. if not for donations the animals sleep on cold, concrete floors.
