  • They were busy poring over the insurance papers.
  • Joke going around:

Farrah Fawcett arrives at the pearly gates and Saint Peter grants her one wish, so she thinks for a minute and says "I wish all the children in the world to be safe".

The next day Micheal Jackson dies from heart attack.
  • What did the woman on the beach say to Michael Jackson? Excuse me, you're in my son.

I disagree. Alcohol is generally speaking considerably more dangerous than prescribed sedatives that affect the same neuroreceptors (with the possible exception of the chloral that took out ANS) and it's ubiquitous and barely regulated by comparison. Likewise, if people want those drugs without a prescription they can get them. Responsibility has to lie with the individual. If someone's going down, they're going down whether or not they're rich and well connected enough to obtain a legal prescription.
  • Okay, a few more and then I'm leaving this thread.

Jockeys will wear black armbands out of respect for Michael Jackson who successfully rode more 3 yr olds than anyone in living memory.

What was Jackson’s cause of Death? A) Sunshine B) Moonlight C) Good Times D) Boogie

McDonald’s are bringing out the Michael Jackson tribute burger. 50 year old meat between two 7 year old buns

Reports of Michael Jackson having a heart attack are incorrect. He’s been found in the children’s ward having a stroke.

When Farrah Fawcett arrived in Heaven, God was such a big fan he decided to grant her one wish. She asked that all the children in the world could be safe. So God killed Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson died of shock after finding out Boyz II Men was a band, not a delivery service.

Michael Jackson actually died of food poisoning. He ate some 12 year old nuts. Punchline # 2: a five-year old wiener.

Michael Jackson’s legal team announced that he had agreed to be melted down by undertakers to make plastic toys. So, kids can play with him for a change.

Your bio pappy is right. MJ, Prince and Madonna = pop trifecta perfection.

Madonna? Musical Genius. Bah Hum Your buggin.....
    Marketing Genuis maybe. Musical NOT.

    RIP Mikey.

This video speaks volumes to me about the power of his music.
  • surely someone should interview his "former wife" to get her reaction.

remember, he got married during the mist of the child sexual abuse allegations....
    so coincidential.

Someone yesterday (TMZ perhaps??) had photos of his mom and LaToya entering the hospital after he was rushed there and before the offical announcement of his death. No signs of Rebbie or Janet

yep..and here's Janet. TMZ seems to be ahead of all of the others in reporting on this. They were the first to say he was dead and the first to post his 911 call

Wait though, who was number 2?
    1) Ed McMahon
    2) Farrah Fawcett
    3) Michael Jackson

    You forgot David Carradine.

Such a shock about MJ. A huge loss.
  • Is it just me or did both people on the 911 call sound fake?

From all indications his addiction wasn't to sedatives, but to painkillers which is a completely different situation. Opiate addictions are among the hardest to kick because the withdrawals are pretty severe. Some of the medical folks here can probably explain this better than I can, but from what I understand, long-term opiate abuse screws up the pain receptors in the body and can make the withdrawal process extremely difficult (think heroin withdrawal). If Celebrity Rehab is any indication opiate addictions (from prescription drugs) are pretty common in H'wood and there appear to be plenty of doctors more than willing to write questionable scripts for stars that can pay.

I do believe that 1) he was sexually abused as a child; 2) he morphed at some point from abused to abuser; 3) he had some serious mental problems in the last half of his life and 4) that he was probably also in the throws of a serious addiction as well. Having said all of that, any doctor that prescribed him drugs in a situation where s/he should have known the drugs were being abused deserves whatever happens.
  • Well no wonder he had his own private doctor!!!!

Does anyone know if the "Bad" video was filmed in NYC subway?
  • speaking generally -- i do not know the specifics with MJ -- painkiller addiction is a great topic for news casters to get up-in-arms about, but one of the issues is that there really are people out there in chronic pain. and increasingly, it's hard for them to get treatment, because people get more worried about addiction than about treating patients. this is particularly true of long-term back and bone problems, as i understand it.

not all opiates are as addictive as heroin, btw. i use an opiate painkiller as needed for migraine with no hint of problems. i've been using it for about 15 years with no ill effect. i could mess around trying out non-opiate drugs instead, but why? this treatment is cheap and effective, with no serious side effects.

one of those addiction-fearing doctors made my chronically-ill mother get rid of her opiate migraine treatment, told her she was a bad, bad addict, and made her do a bunch of BS snake oil and dietary treatments for over a year before she dropped the doctor (who was kind of a sadist) and went back to using the drugs that actually made her head stop hurting.
  • addiction is not a simple thing.... all sorts of things make some people vulnerable, and others resistant:
    genetics
    trauma history
    mental illness
    ...etc.

So, yea, MD's are risk adverse because its not like there is a test they can administer ...one that will state "if you give this person x drug, they will not become addicted"

Likewise, there is no test one can take that would say: "You stopped drinking/using as a result of a horrible addiction you had in your 20s. You are now 40, and could use these substances without having the same problems" ...so AA/NA preach that once you are an addict, you will always be an addict.
  • yes, and it's not like i don't believe addiction exists (put a check mark beside "family history" on my file, k thx), but so does pain. and by the time "risk-averse" means "no real treatment", i think things are going too far.

my understanding is that many if not most of the pain killer addicts out there got started bc of real pain, pain that often doesn't just go away after a few weeks or months of healing. not to say addiction is never a problem, but our puritanism can go a bit far, imho.
  • You guys are blurring the distinction between dependence and addiction. People using opioids for chronic pain develop physical dependence, but that's definitely not the same thing as addiction.
  • fine. i'm just sick of getting dirty looks at the pharmacy.

    but back to mj....
  • Yup, the related buzzwords are "informed consent" and "dignity of risk".

    ...in otherwords:

As often as possible, the patient should decide which treatment and medications they should receive.

...MJ was just six standard deviations from what the rest of us would want for ourselves, that's the only difference.

Don't get me wrong, I am absolutley not against opiate use to mitigate pain generally, but I do think that when doctors suspect that someone is addicted, or when they see the patient exhibiting signs of addiction they should intervene. I understand it is a slippery slope, but I do believe that in the end there are a small minority of doctors and patients that are creating a situation where people like your mother can't get the trearment they need. Folks like Anna Nicole Smith, her son, and now possibly MJ certainly do show that there are some folks who are abusing these drugs and that there are doctors out there willing to facilitate this abuse.

Wouldn't call them a completely different situation. One of the most important distinctions between physical dependence on sedatives including alcohol, and physical dependence on opiates, is that abrupt withdrawal of the latter is unpleasant (potentially extremely unpleasant) but not dangerous, whereas the former is both unpleasant and life-threatening. To put it simply, a rapid rebound of pain receptors merely hurts, whereas a rapid rebound of inhibitory receptors can burn out the brain.

... as opposed to the rest of the community, where opiate addictions are pretty common but less highly publicized and more likely to involve illicit and more dangerous channels.
  • homeowner, i agree, except i'd define the minority as those facilitating the destruction of the folks you mention.

but really? i have no idea. i'm just in a crappy mood. apologies all around.

Do you cry when other pedophiles die? I don't.....
Were you molested by MJ? .... No, I didn't think so.

We will never know the truth about MJ's bedroom life.

I favor the South Park theory that asserts MJ was so weird that he really just did want to play innocently with children as if he were an over grown kid himself.

I hope MJ didn't molest any kids. We don't and never will know the truth.

    R.I.P. MJ
  • I love this old George Carlin video (another big loss this year):

  • Larry King needs to give it up. He's doing an MJ show and is talking to "P. Daddy". Just hearing him say that is ridiculous
  • OMG, now Larry called him "P" and the screen says he's interviewing JC Chavez instead of Chasez...of course, the Lizard Man is saying Chavez. Oy
  • From Daily News. I heard they were going to test his hair for drugs and I was wondering how they'd do it since I can't believe any of that black mop was his real hair:

"An autopsy on Michael Jackson revealed that the King of Pop's emaciated body was riddled with needle marks, scars and broken ribs , it was reported today.

Jackson had also lost virtually all of his hair, according to the report in the London Sun.

Jackson's body had wasted away to 112 pounds and his stomach was empty except for partially dissolved pills, according to the paper.

His hips, thighs and shoulders were filled with needle wounds, believed to have come from shots of painkillers."

Three injections had penetrated and damaged his heart wall, while a fourth struck his ribs, the paper reported.

He also sustained several broken ribs while authorities administered CPR during his final moments on Thursday.

Jackson was wearing a wig when he died and his hair was reduced to "peach fuzz," with one spot above his left ear scarred and completely bald--the aparent result of burns sustained, when his hair caught fire while filming a 1984 Pepsi ad.

Jackson has had two autopsies performed on him. One by the Los Angeles coroner and a private autopsy requested by the family.

The details leaked to The Sun ecame from the official autopsy.
