Strong Oil or Diesel Exhaust Type Odor

We just got woken up by a very strong oil or diesel exhaust type odor. It seems to be coming from outdoors, more from the back of our apartment. We're near 6th and 7th Streets and 8th Avenue in Park Slope. Does anyone else smell this? Not sure if it's something to be concerned about but we did have to close all the windows.
