Good Places in South Crown Heights?

Hey Guys!

I'm moving to South Crown Heights soon. I noticed a lot of the recent Crown Heights posts about places to eat and shop are really about North Crown Heights. I'll be living right near the Medgar Evers Carroll St. building (rogers and carroll). Any recommendations for laundry and shopping in this area? Or is most of the best stuff north of Eastern Parkway?

Most things I know of are on Bedford going west. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of options for laundry and shopping on Nostrand. For shopping I'm almost certain you have to travel south of Empire.

I live at Franklin and Carroll and can only recall traveling east of Bedford maybe twice in the 3 years I lived here.

For shopping try Western Beef on Empire west of Bedford. Its a cross between a supermarket and a big box retailer. Its not a sexy place and you won't be able to buy specialty items like organics there, but you can get meat, fish, and staples in bulk.

For sit-down dining I'd invite you to stop by Tavern on Nostrand on Nostrand and Union. Its one of the only sit-down restaurants in the area. Its open Tuesday-Sunday including Sunday brunch. (Disclaimer: I'm related to the new owners).

The Associated on Franklin and Crown is the best in the area.

As for other good things in CH South.

The Botanical Garden is obviosly great (the back entrance is on Washington btw Mongomery and Crown.

- Nostrand has the Tavern on Nostrand, the Trattoria, a good spanish place on Mongomery and the Sunshine Cafe is awesome.

There are a number of places in Lefferts Garden that are close as well...

I live on President and Nostrand...

886 Nostrand Is great laundry place. $70/lb drop off which does a good job and a lot of machines if you want to sit.

888 Nostrand is a new discount store. Its opening next week, but looks pretty great.

1192 President St is a clean and inexpensive fish market.

856 Nostrand Ave is a good Brick Oven Pizza place. A bit pricey but great food

857 Tavern on Nostrand is pretty great. Also a little pricey but good food.

90 Empire Blvd is Western Beef. this is the most fantastic supermarket I have ever been to. They have a walk in freezer for their meat and a wall labeled "BACON". <3

1715 Bedford Ave is a KFC.


I hope this helps. Most of my knowledge is two blocks away from you, but i love our area.
