the return of hot bird! — Brooklynian

the return of hot bird!

  • saw this, cannot wait.
  • Mouth is already watering.... Does anyone remember the original? What was it like?
  • Someone on Brownstoner said it's not actually the return of Hot Bird, but a bar that decided to use the name and won't be serving BBQ. I'm so sad... anyone know whether that's true or not? I want the Hot Bird of yore!
  • HOLY S**T!!! I moved to P Heights in 2005 and remember trying to find the place advertised on those massive ads around Vanderbilt. If this opening is true, it's a punch to the face of a reminder of the power of advertising. I feel like ive been waiting for this restaurant for 4 years even though I've never even tasted it!
  • I doubt it is the Original Hot Bird. I can't remember what happened to him right now.
His chicken was the best. Rotisserie. Melted in your mouth.
Damn I miss that place. Closed around 91 I think.
  • Hot Bird closed sometime after summer '92 because I moved here that summer and got hooked on it. The best!!!!!! I would so love to have Hot Bird back!

1992?!?! Those are some old ass ads. Pretty amazing that they're still up on 2 or 3 buildings nearly 20 years later.

Look around! You can see remnants of painted advertisements that are decades older than Hot Bird's

Definitely...but not around here, and none still so bold.

I will personally vouch for the BBQ place. Not that any body knows me - I could have polyps all over my tongue - but I did go there Tuesday night. Small, brightly lit, almost completely unadorned, but the food was great. I had the BBQ pork and the collard greens and washed them down next door at Hot Bird.

As a side note, Hot Bird is the weirdest place. They've ditched the food truck and have a large open fire in the middle of the outdoor space. Kids gathered around in the cold like hobos. Great music, totally chill, and that fire is unique, I just wonder if it's legal and if they'll keep it going when the condo opens up across the street and the block doesn't seem so desolate.

  • i wouldn't worry about the condo opening up. it's been sitting empty for years in foreclosure. the collection

  • Oh, that's crazy. Look slike it could be a nice place - certainly would give that little neighborhood a jolt.
