Prospect Park Vet Care - how do you like them?

shap attack
edited November -1 in Brooklyn Pets
Hey everyone! It's about time to get my pup gilbert neutered. I usually go to Park Slope Vet care on 5th ave and 7th street, but they are super expensive. I heard about the muffin certificate and Prospect Park Vet care is cheap. I spoke to a lady on the phone and she seemed rude and not interested.

Has anyone been there, or could recommend a place close to park slope? i know if it's close to park slope it's probably not cheap, but i'd like to hear your opinions :) Thanks! I appreciate it.

  • There is one receptionist at PPAC (Prospect Park Animal Clinic - I think that's what you mean on PPW and 5th St) who is really rude. Don't let you put that off - all of the others are wonderful, including the doctors. I took my girl there to be spayed and I was hysterical (one of my cats had died fairly recently and I was really panicked about this cat having surgery). They were very patient with me and my cat was fine. Since then, I've taken both of my cats in for check ups and minor things (one had an ingrown nail). They don't try to rip you off by selling you food and meds you don't need and I would definitely recommend them for routine stuff. I've (thankfully) never had any major emergency - I'd probably go to a true animal hospital for that
  • yes, i did mean PPAC :) i mean, i know it's a routine surgery an all that..but if paying more upfront means paying less in the end (like having no complications) then i'd rather do that. thanks for the imput! :)
  • PPAC will do a wonderful job for you. I have been very pleased with their surgical services and I am extremely picky. There is absolutely no reason to pay full price for a neuter when Muffin's Certificates are available. It's a routine surgery. Just be sure to mention that you will be using the certificate when you schedule the neuter since they only accept two Muffin's certificates per day.
  • thank you!! that is good to know :)
  • I brought my puppy to be neutered at PPAC a few months ago. He was only 4 months old and is a small breed puppy which I was afraid would be an issue but the vet was awesome and the surgery was fine. I got him microchipped at the same time for $30 (maybe $35.) No complications and he was ready to be picked up at 3pm a bit groggy but just fine. I actually intend to take him there in the future instead of Animal Kind because of the price difference.
  • they are great! and they have some grant or donation for the microchipping, so even with paying the $30 or so, it's like 1/3 the price or something.
  • I was just at PPAC two weeks for the first time ago with one of my cats. They were terrific all around, they gave us lots of time, answered all of my questions and returned a call from me very quickly. I plan to go there in the future for my vet needs. I went during the week, they kept to my appointment time, there was not a crowd of people and animals backed up in the waiting room.
  • Personally, I love the people at Park Slope Vet at 5th Avenue and 7th Street and don't think they are any more expensive than any other vet in the area and I have been to 3 others around here (including the ones on PPW)
