Hardwood floor repair?

We incurred some water damage in our apartment due to a leaking air conditioner and now have some floorboards in our bedroom that have "popped up"/become warped from the water.

Does anyone know of an (affordable) handyman type person that could either replace or repair this small area of the hardwood floor?

Any ideas would be very helpful. thanks!!

  • what kind of floor boards? Thin wood laminate? ....just buy more of the same kind.

or 3/4" oak? the trick is matching the stain.

PM me, we'll figure it out.
  • we had a similar thing happen to us with a washing machine leak. it warped a rather large area and the boards came up. we were going to sand it and then restain it, thats the easiest way and works fine............but.............as we waited and di nothing, in a few noths, it dired out and went back into place. now the floor squeaks again which it didnt when it was waterlogged, a small benefit we enjoyed! hope this helps. i suggest you wait it out and ventilate it well.
  • I have experience in this matter! Yeah!

We had a radiator leaks in 2 different rooms, the long flat floorboards in one room bubbled up. In the other room we have parquet floors so a bunch of the little planks 'tepeed'.

So, after we fix the leak we waited and by the end of summer the floors dried out and settled back in place. There is still a little bump that you can notice if you stare at it, that can be sanded down later. But otherwise the wood took care of itself.

I say wait it out, might even take till winter if we don't get enough heat this summer.
  • Jafar ( 718 838 0492 ) just finished some work on my floors and did a great job at a reasonable price. Tell him Alan sent you.
  • I don't know how bad the damge is but I agree that if not extensive, a little wait time is a good idea. If you need repair/ replacement Pemier Wood Flooring is a great company. They have restored and completely ( I mean down to removal of VERYTHING till the beams) replaced wood floors for us.
