Writing Workshop - Starts Sept 23 - Just ONE Spot Left!
Writing workshops starting in September. Taught by Nancy Rawlinson (www.nancyrawlinson.com), an experienced writer, editor, teacher and creative coach. Many of my clients and workshop students have gone on to publish books, attend prestigious MFA programs, and otherwise fulfill their writing goals.
These intensive, craft-focused workshops are a great way to help yourself produce quality work. You supply the writing and I'll supply the space, structure, deadlines, motivation, and snacks. You'll also get thoughtful and objective feedback from me and the other workshop participants. The workshops will be held in my comfortable living room in Prospects Heights. I only have three spots left, so contact me now to reserve your space! [email protected]
The details:
* These will be craft-focused workshops, open to fiction and nonfiction writers, limited to just SIX writers per group (so you get more individual attention).
* You'll get eight sessions, total, and we will meet every other week (so you'll have structure and feedback over a sixteen week period).
* Each session will last three hours and include some in-class writing and discussion of process (so everyone will engage with their work and leave with a goal).
* Everyone will submit four times, a maximum of 25 pages (so you could produce and workshop up to 100 new pages).
* Everyone will get a one hour phone or in-person consultation with me over the course of the workshop.
* The price? Just $595.
I'll be running two sessions. One will start September 16 (***UPDATE****This session is now full***/UPDATE***) and one September 23 (***UPDATE - ONE SPOT OPEN***/UPDATE***). If you are interested in the remaining opening, email me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to answer any questions and give you information on how to reserve a spot.
If a workshop doesn't suit you right now, I'm still available for one-on-one consultations. Check out my website (www.nancyrawlinson.com) or contact me at [email protected] to discuss the options.
Bio:
Nancy Rawlinson is a writer, freelance editor, teacher and creative coach. She has been working with clients at all stages of their writing careers for the last six years and has taught fiction, nonfiction and MFA prep workshops for three years through the Sackett Street Writers' Workshop in Brooklyn. Nancy has been published in a wide variety of places including The Guardian, Mosaic Literary Magazine and Madison magazine, and awarded residencies and fellowships from the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, the Ragdale Foundation, Atlantic Center for the Arts and the Jentel Artist Residency Program. She's a consultant for MFA applicants, a contributing editor at Guernica magazine, and author of a writing advice column for The Faster Times. Her website is www.nancyrawlinson.com.
Testimonials:
Nancy's class was by far the most useful writing class I've ever had. Her analysis was rigorous and thoughtful, and the way she structures classmates' feedback ensures that you'll receive detailed and informed criticism from them as well. Workshops are often hit or miss, but everything about how Nancy sets up her classes almost guarantees that you'll leave with everything you need to make your manuscript stand out. Highest recommendation. (Joseph Childers, http://trueslant.com/childers/)
With Nancy's guidance, I became a better, more effective writer. She saw things I didn't, made suggestions I couldn't, and was as invested in my work as I was. (I have the pages upon pages of feedback to prove it.) As someone new to writing, I was worried about being either coddled or criticized; Nancy did neither. She told me exactly what I needed to hear to improve. What's more, she was able to accommodate all writing styles, backgrounds, and goals in the class. She fostered an environment in which honesty and comfort were prioritized. And there's nothing like tea and cookies to set the right tone! (Jim Sherwin)
I've worked with Nancy as both a workshop leader and an individual coach. She is pragmatic, craft-focused, and incisive. She pays careful attention to both words on the page and the larger themes and drift of the work. I can't imagine where my writing would be without her sane, practical guidance. (Gretchen Anderson)
Nancy provides excellent, focused, usable feedback. But she also does so much more. From thinking about how to structure a longer piece to using writer's block to get at the essential questions of my work, she helped me channel the challenges of writing into creating a better product. Other teachers have helped me by interrogating my writing; Nancy helped me by teaching me how to step back and interrogate it myself. I now have a more focused vision for my memoir project, and I feel more confident and more excited about writing than I ever have. Plus, she was a supportive, wise presence as I went through the process of applying to MFA programs, minimizing my stress and maximizing my potential! (Leda Eizenberg)
I came to Nancy's non-fiction writing class via the recommendation of a friend and I'm glad I did. Nancy is smart, frank, and encouraging. She knows the publishing business and had much helpful one-on-one advice. She's able to work with all types of projects, big and small. Don't hesitate. Let her help you take your writing to the next level. (Deirdre Sinnott, http://www.deirdresinnott.com/)
