Incident on Bedford Ave @ Empire yesterday, 6 pm — Brooklynian

Incident on Bedford Ave @ Empire yesterday, 6 pm

Did anyone else see the arrest on Bedford Avenue at Empire yesterday? This happened just before 6 pm on Wednesday.

I was biking up Bedford Ave on the way back from the beach. A teenager was running down the sidewalk, pursued by cops. He ran into traffic, crossed Empire, and was stopped by cops on the other side.

He was pushed down to the ground in the parking lot on the NW corner. An unmarked police car with lights flashing swerved up, over the curb, and stopped in front of the arrest. The guy driving jumped out of the car, ran up to the kid, and kicked him as hard as he could. The kid getting arrested screamed in pain. Then about a million cops showed up, swarmed the parking lot, and I guess the kid was taken away. An ambulance showed up, but the kid getting arrested was not put into it.

I don't care what the arrest was for - I saw what the cop did and it is unacceptable. If anyone else witnessed this, please send me a message. Thanks.

  • do cops abide to the no-snitching policy?

Of course! They just call it "The Blue Wall Of Silence."
  • Either NYAve is fabricating this story or there must be someone who works at the 77th precinct who can at least offer some objective information about the arrest.
  • If the incident took place where NYAve says, then it was probably located in the 71st Pct..

The north/south boundaries of the 77th Pct. are Atlantic Avenue and Eastern Parkway. I'm not sure about the east/west boundaries; I believe they are Ralph Ave. and Flatbush Ave.
  • Thanks, bklyn50. I know there are some people who work at the 77th who often have reliable info. It seems like an incident of the magnitude would have set them off, but if it's outside the 77th then it makes sense why there was no response.
  • good job nypd!
  • Brooklyn Community Board No. 8 represents parts of Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, and Weeksville. We are bounded by Atlantic Avenue (north side, even numbers) to Eastern Parkway (south side, odd numbers) and Ralph Avenue (east side, even numbers) to Flatbush Avenue (west side, odd numbers).

CB8 and the 77th Pct. cover the identical city areas.
